Agreed. While not exactly my cup of tea, four-cylinder turbocharged engines are really quite something these days. Thinking something like the very basic/stark mini Datsun pickups from the ‘70’s (!!!) with some limited modern features (disc brakes, good tires, some safety stuff, A/C, and a decent stereo) that gets 35+ mpg just might be very popular. I own a ‘24 Chevy, and the tech on it at times overwhelms me.
We have a 2012 Chevy Sonic with a 1.4 turbocharged 4 banger. It has 196k miles on the odometer and still runs strong. We also have a ‘23 Buick Encore with the same engine + 10 more hp. I am also amazed at how much power these engines can put out. A 1.4 litre engine is around 90 cubic inches. There are motor cycles with larger engines! A 90 ci. engine putting out 160 hp is proportionately more than a 1970 426 ci. Hemi, rated at 435 hp. at the time, but putting out about an honest 500 hp.
