They ALMOST got it right.
Dump the EV and add a 1.6L four banger and they'd sell 5 million of them.

Thanks Mr. Bezos, but I think I’ll keep my 2000 7.3L F350DRW, and my $20k.
Maybe you can interest your spacey girlfriend and her spacey girlfriends in buying your cute li’l truck.

It’s about time someone did something like this. Whether electric or gas, a modular and modern version of “the people’s car” is a good idea. Make America Affordable Again.

This might be a practical use case for the people who would buy a small pickup, like I had for years with a 4-cyl stick-shift Ranger. In those years I drove tons of miles (gas savings was important), but rarely carried large cargo a long way (i.e. an EV truck loses lots of range carrying a lot of weight). Usually, my "cargo" was just lightweight dirty items like a weed trimmer and push mower -- the kind it'd be not worth getting a large truck and having bad gas mileage with.
But still don't get it as an only vehicle.

Is it named the VOLKS-EV???

I'd consider it if he has the randomly bursting into flames thing whipped.
But he didn't mention it, so I'm guessing not.

I have been saying that custom built EVs could be a future thing - once one of the monthly "battery breakthroughs" proves to be viable replacement for LiO .batteries.
Meaning that like as you easily choose a motherboard and then find compatible components CPU. RAM, SSD's, etc.) to build your own PC, then you would build an EV by choosing a frame and other compatible components which a local shop dedicated to such would put together.
EV's have much potential once the Lio battery issue is solved (too heavy, expensive, and environmentally costly) plus the costly repairs. Get rid of your ICE car's exhaust system, engine cooling and lubrication and replace with electric motors in a vehicle that go 400 miles on a charge, and with nuke plants providing generation.

It “embraces DIY culture.”
Yes, those weekend oil changes and tune-ups with your teenage son will create memories that will last a lifetime. And adding custom headers, a radical cam, and glass packs will really make your son’s eyes get big when he hears that V8 roar to life.

The option-challenged vehicle offers a choice of two battery sizes for the rear-wheel-drive truck: a 52.7-kWh battery pack targeting 150 miles of range and an 84.3-kWh pack with 240 miles of range. I don't think the technical details of the battery capacity/range are correct. The standard Nissan Leaf has a 40KWH battery with a range of 150 miles. The longer range model has a 60KWH battery with a range of about 240 miles under ideal conditions..
