Had a discussion with my leftist son yesterday about this, and I had to agree with him.
My medical data is MINE!
Your medical data is YOURS!

The fed has no business in either one!

Who could have predicted that bringing a lifelong leftist in the cabinet would lead to ridiculously leftist policy proposals?

Oh, right.

Everyone with actual conservative principles that said it would.

My MD daughter was worried last fall about RFKJr - I told her not to worry. He’d just be given some kind of special advisor role, run some committee, make some recommendations.

At least we both retain a sense of humor about it - we always work in a Bongino-like “Well, it’s day xx of you were right, I was wrong” when we talk nowadays.

Tend to agree with this. A person’s medical data belongs to them. If it’s an opt in/opt out that’s fine but if it’s just the government gathering data without any awareness of the people involved, no. These smacks of gun registration laws. Why does the government need a list of all people with autism? What is going to be done with the information. Maybe RFK’s intentions are noble, but that info in the wrong hands could be used for some bad purposes. Read your history.

Who in this world thinks their medical info is private now??? Plus, if someone is getting govt funding because of a medical issue, then they have to give up info IMHO.

“Eugenics”, really? The sudden and determined opposition to this research project suggests that a large number of secondary gains from the diagnosis of autism are being threatened. After all, if we isolate the causes, we might cure or God forbid, prevent the disorder.

As to the “privacy rights” to medical information deposited in government funded computer systems, well, obviously given this is the Trump Administration certain District Court Judges will forgo their usual rubber stamping of government projects and attempt to intercede, but there is likely no right that was not surrendered in the process of obtaining funding for intervention or treatment.

I wonder if ASAN is funded and controlled by a drug company that wants to find a treatment, but not the cause or cure. Many disease organizations are.
