During Trump’s first term, then Senator Jim Jordan was working on investigations into this issue of Chinese students.

Somewhere in the archives of my mind I recall two students stealing or attempting to steal vials of unknown materials and transport it back to China. One was caught and identified as a Chinese operative, the other with the vials got away.

Theft of universities’ secrets fuels US crackdown on Chinese talent programmes https://www.chemistryworld.com/news/theft-of-universities-secrets-fuels-us-crackdown-on-chinese-talent-programmes/4011014.article The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has described how the Chinese government oversees expert recruitment programmes, such as the Thousand Talents, offers lucrative financial and research benefits to recruit individuals working and studying outside of China who possess access to, or expertise in, high-priority research fields. The agency estimates that China’s government has more than 200 similar initiatives, some of which US taxpayers are unwittingly financing.

A report released by a Senate homeland security and governmental affairs subcommittee in November found that such talent recruitment programmes have ‘strategically and systematically acquired knowledge and intellectual property from researchers and scientists’ in the US.

yes I remember all that!

Now it’s even worse, the CCP put a law in place this year mandating that all Chinese citizens who get a foreign visa must act as intelligence collectors.

The problem is many of our state university STEM programs particularly their graduate programs are very dependent on these Chinese students. Action taken against these students & green card holding profs could shut a number of them down.
