A seven-month-old girl from Columbus, Ohio, has lost her life following an attack by one of her family's three pet pit bulls. The child's mother, Mackenzie Copley, expressed her grief in a Facebook post, writing, “I will never understand why!!!” She also shared images of her daughter Elizah Turner, peacefully cuddling with the dogs. “I am so lost and broken. This was the same dog who was side by side with my baby every single day,” added the mother, according to a report in The New York Post.
Elizah's father, Kameron Turner, also poured out his sorrow on social media, stating, “Life is so not fair. How can I continue living without her.”
The Franklin County Coroner's Office confirmed the identity of the 7-month-old girl. Columbus Police Sgt. James Fuqua said that Elizah was bitten by a family dog at a home located in the 3700 block of South Champion Avenue, according to a report in WBNS.
Fuqua described the incident as a heartbreaking and sudden tragedy, noting that the situation escalated very quickly and appeared to be accidental.
“There are really not a lot of words I can say to convey how I feel and how the officers who arrived. Everyone in this process is literally grieving as if this child belonged to us because most of us are parents and can't imagine just how this scene is,” Fuqua was quoted as saying. Remembering Elizah, her obituary described her as a joyful and vibrant child: “Lizah was spunky, happy… and she was never without a smile. She brought light to everyone's life, healed her family's hearts and gave them all purpose. Elizah's face would light up the room and her laugh was contagious.”
A couple of years ago I was browsing at a flea market and I overheard a vendor talking to some other people. The day before, he had been at a yard sale and a pit bull mix attacked a baby in a stroller and tore off part of the poor little kid’s face.
I didn’t want to butt into the conversation so I don’t know what the outcome of the incident was, but it couldn’t have been good. I hope the kid survived and the animal was put down.
Pit bulls are dangerous animals. Anyone who owns one is an idiot.
As so many have already said on this thread, never leave a child alone with a dog. It doesn’t matter how small or gentle the dog has been. Never.
There is a GoFundMe site to raise money to bury the child.
“On April 9th, Mackenzie and Kameron’s world was shattered in the most devastating way imaginable. Their precious 7-month-old daughter taken from them in a heartbreaking tragedy involving one of their family dogs...”

Gently eradicate the breed. Sterilize them. You don’t have to kill them unless they deserve it.
Additional thought; that may apply to the parents as well.
One wasn’t enough they had to get three. 🙄
Yours might not be, but the only dog that ever bit me was a Lab. I was 11 or 12, riding my bicycle up the street, and the dog came out of its yard and got me on the hip, barely breaking the skin. My dad talked to the owner and the dog wasn't allowed loose after that. Those were the days when everybody didn't sue everybody else over everything.
Yes that’s the point I was trying to make. They are illogical in their love for their dogs.
Chihuahuas I think used to be #1 on bites. Yet I’m fairly certain no one had ever died from a bite (maybe infection after). Not only have I heard of many deaths by pits in the last 5 years I can probably think/find of one case a year where they killed then ATE their owner.
Yet a Pit owner, if they choose #7, will only admit the number of bites usually not severity.
oh I was kidding- it was their let’s dress up and take a Christmas pic, so I figured the dog, being family, deserved a spot. /s
PS I love the non matching pj’s.
Our Mini Schnauzer was a breed of dogs bred to kill rats. Seems to me Pit Bulls are bred to fight and kill so no surprise here. I’ll stick to my motto:
One Pit Bull
One 9mm
Problem solved
In the past 25 years in the USA approximately 1000 people have been killed by dogs. The numbers killed by dog breed are
Breed Number of Fatalities (Est.) Percentage of Total
Pit Bull (incl. mixes) 630 66.3%
Rottweiler 95 10.0%
German Shepherd 40 4.2%
Mixed Breed (unspecified) 30 3.2%
American Bulldog 25 2.6%
Mastiff/Bullmastiff 25 2.6%
Husky 20 2.1%
Labrador Retriever 15 1.6%
Boxer 10 1.1%
Doberman Pinscher 10 1.1%
Other (37+ breeds) 50 5.3%
Pit bulls (including American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, and mixes) account for 66% of fatalities (346 of 521 deaths from 2005–2019), despite being ~6.5–8% of the dog population.
In the UK in the same time period there were 56 deaths. Broken down by breed
Breed Number of Fatalities (Est.) Percentage of Total
American Bully XL 35 50.0%
Staffordshire Bull Terrier 15 21.4%
Pit Bull (pre-ban/mixes) 10 14.3%
Other (mixed, unspecified) 10 14.3%
86% by pitbull types.
“you suddenly want a dog and are a low income quick fix type you just grab what is available, and it won’t be a golden retriever, or a Keeshond, or a lab, so a whole lot of this pit bull stuff is not from careful consideration and in-depth looking.”
Don’t these people read?!?
The majority of dogs they are around are pit bull pets, they slip into their world of dogs, and their world of dogs isn’t like those wonderful dogs that you see in upper middle class homes, they don’t have the money to seek out those great dogs and they sure aren’t seeing them at the dog shelter.
Since those people do a lot of renting of no pet apartments and trailers, and a lot of moving, I would guess that many pit bulls are passed on from friends who are moving.
Getting bit by a Lab is extremely rare, but if you will notice, you are still alive. Labs don't try to kill you by ripping out your throat the way a pit bull does.
Yes, as I said, it was a pretty minor incident. Just pointing out that a Lab can in fact show unprovoked aggression, not in any way suggesting that Labs in general are vicious.
Almost any dog has to be watched around small kids
I put my Rotts up around em
My Dobie 20 years ago who was formally trained was great with toddlers but I still watched him
That 6-8% is a canard
The broad span of pit bull type dogs is probably the most common breed in the country and per folks who defend them
It’s about a quarter of dogs
It’s pretty much impossible to determine honestly and on the internet it’s all political
Here is everyone fighting it out
I see a lot of them here
But not like I might in rural areas or the hood
I’ve always figured having owned 7 that Rotts are much more proficient mankillers
Dobes too cause like bushmasters they strike high and are smart and determined
One thing male pits win hands down
Dog aggression.
Truth.
Grew up around farm dogs but they were not what the folks worried about.
It was the cows and even more so , the hogs.
No no no.. no way I’d have that dog in that close proximity to my newborn. We had what we found out was “maybe” an Amstaff. We always thought he appeared to have been through hell and back. He seemed very grateful to be safe. I never let my guard down with him, though.
