California will soon reopen its e-bike voucher program, offering eligible residents up to $2,000 toward the purchase of an electric bicycle.

The state-funded program is designed to help lower- and middle-income Californians replace car trips, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cut commuting costs.

Incentive funds can be applied as a discount at the time of purchase toward the cost of an eligible e-bike and related accessories.

To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a current and valid California driver’s license, AB 60 license, or state ID.

Additionally, participants must meet income requirements, with household income capped at 300% of the federal poverty level. For example, a single-person household must earn no more than $45,180 annually, while a family of four must stay under $93,600.

The application window for the program opens at 5 p.m. on April 29, with just 1,000 vouchers available.

Wide open for fraud. There will be ten “undocumented democrats” living in a single person dwelling and all getting their electric bikes and then setting fire to the building while they are all charging their batteries at the same time causing overloads. A great voter getter from a state that’s billions and billions in debt.

In other words, the price of an e-bike in California just rose +$2,000.

Didn't they already try this with Obama's Cash for Clunkers scheme?

In this case it probably won’t raise the price of e-bikes $2000 because you can get one online, from another state etc.

How much will they offer when kids going 30 mph on the side walk critically injure innocent pedestrians?

I live in Seattle. I walk or bus every where, because I cannot afford my rent, plus a car.

Kids are only one part of the problem.

Urban delivery riders, almost all of them illegal immigrants, are maniacs. You cannot hear them behind you, and car traffic coming towards you camouflages the presence of a high speed bike rider, coming straight at you, until it is too late to respond.

100% of electric bikes, scooters, and unicycles should be in the street - and NEVER on the side walk!

Replace car trips, reduce commuting costs and greatly increase the chance of them getting hurt or killed

Hillsborough County (Tampa, FL) offered a voucher program for e-bike purchasers in the idiotic assumption that every purchase of an e-bike took a motor vehicle off the road and saved the environment. What the County will never admit to is that every one of those e-bikes traveling at 25-30 mph ended up being ridden either on the sidewalks or on the bicycle trails, endangering the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and runners using those by-ways. You do not ever see an e-bike on the streets of Tampa. Never. Local government has been paid off big time by the retailers, distributors and manufacturers of these fiendish hybrid devices. Bet on it.

Free give aways. Yes, Obummer and his “cash for clunkers” fiasco that crushed and melted thousands of vehicles, and afterwards used and refurbished parts became unavailable. Had to buy new parts costing a lot more. Gave away cell phones too. I, nor anyone in my family or anyone I know ever received a free phone, but our tax dollars paid for illegals to get one. Enough of this bs. America and Americans first!
