Salaries grow fast for engineering, but have been stagnant for past 15 to 20 years it seems.

The top eight for ages 22-27 are Engineering.

And seven of the top ten for ages 35-45 are Engineering.

There’s definitely a correlation to be found, in what demographics pursue those degrees. i.e., “Hard work pays off”, and all that...

I have a degree in ine of those fields. It is no guarantee. Without connections, the odds are very long.

My oldest daughter has a biomedical engineering BS and mechanical engineering masters.

Works in medical devices.

Doing well. Lots of opportunities in that field here in NJ.

Without finishing college, my dad made $182K/year in 2025 dollars with his union job in 1981.

So what are these great careers in a globalized world Americans are now getting?

Well, I do not have a degree— I am fairly young and I “works with me hands.” I hit 6 figures last year and this year is skyrocketing. Degrees are great, but somebody still has to build and fix stuff and lift heavy things in the heat. ha

Like $100K affords some kind of extravagant lifestyle? You gonna support a wife, 3-6 kids, college, house, cars, and work 40 hours a week?

Step sister (that i don’t care for) got a PhD in marine biology from a Hawaii University. Effing 12 years in college. The woman now works for some corporation as a lab manager leading a group that genetically engineers medical marijuana. I had to smile when I heard that.

What? No 15th century French poetry? (The sister of one of my friends has that degree. Yes, their dad is a doctor and well off enough to have paid for that trash).

Also, no English lit with a minor in “Arts and letters”? (The daughter of one of my friends has that degree. Yes, my friend is well off enough to have paid for that trash). She now works in one of his companies as more or less a waitress.

My daughter has a bachelor’s of applied science, dental hygiene, she makes $60-80 an hour. Her degree 10 years ago cost us around $40k. Great career field for young ladies, no vaccine requirements.
