About time we had a golf thread on FR. Thanks.
Golf is the only sport I watch on TV, love the game, took lessons and flunked.
Game today was breathtakingly close, glad Rory won. Beautiful wife and precious daughter were there getting big hugs from dad.

Just curious, is Rory’s current caddie the same one he was leaving his wife for?

Bobby Jones won the pre-Masters Grand Slam, which counted the Western Open as a Major.

Rory’s mistake in the round was to try to play conservatively and protect the lead. He is an aggressive player, and if he’s not attacking his game falls apart.

I only watch Golf today 🤣

He still gets ~$2.2M”

A pittance compared to the huge surge in endorsements he would have secured if he won. Probably by a factor of 10, or more, considering endorsements would surge for several years. Not to mention the lifetime invitation to every Masters he wanted to play in.

Just curious, is Rory’s current caddie the same one he was leaving his wife for?McIlroy's caddie is a man.
If you're referring to this person:

That's Caroline Wojniacki, the women's
tennis star. She and McIlroy were in a relationship prior to his current wife, and she caddied for him several times.
If you're referring to this woman:

.
That's Erica Stoll, his current wife. She caddied for him in a par 3 competition associated with this year's Masters.
So there's definitely sets of photos of two different women in white Master's caddying outfits associated with Rory, but the Wojniacki stuff is from 10 years ago, and he was in a relationship with her.
The woman he was rumored to have a possible affair with is CBS Sports reporter Amanda Balionis:

Now before anyone makes a comment about his "type", let's not forget this little aberration:

Yup, that's Meghan Markle...
(My uncle is a huge golf fan, including any personal dramas the players are involved in, and I got myself an involuntary crash course in Mr. McIlroy's romantic history watching the final round with him today...)

You have a good point. At age 44 that would carry him to age 50 without having to qualify for another major. According to his bio he has made around $100M in Euro and PGA earnings. That is not counting endorsements. Nice work if you can get it..

Bill Murray’s entire iconic “Cinderella Story” monologue in Caddyshack was improvised. This you may have heard, but Chris Nashawaty, in another excerpt on Golf.com from his upcoming book on the making of the movie, sheds a little more light on the scene. First, this is all that was in the script regarding Carl Spackler’s Masters moment. SCENE 244: EXT. CLUBHOUSE (SAME DAY—LATE AFTERNOON) The sky is beginning to darken. CARL, THE GREENSKEEPER, is absently lopping the heads off bedded tulips as he practices his golf swing with a grass whip. After making the directorial decision to use mums instead of tulips (a good one, as they explode in a cloud of petals at impact), all Ramis asked Murray to do was to do some imaginary commentary, giving an example of how he encouraged himself when running by pretending he was announcing his performance at the Olympics. The iconic improv wasn’t something refined over multiple takes, either: As Murray told Nashawaty, “Improvising about golf was easy for me. And it was fun.”

Rory did it! Congrats!
Question. Rory is Irish. Name is McIlroy. Mc is Irish. But it is pronounced as ‘Mac’ which is Scotish?
Why isn’t his name pronounced Mic Ilroy?

Rory made an interesting observation as he sat in Butler cabin before getting his green jacket.
“I was wondering what you guys will talk about next year.”
They won’t have the go to line of whether or not Rory will win this year and join the group of players to will all four majors.
He made it *tough* on himself - and on his fans! I am very happy he got it done. Much the same as when Sergio finally won a major.
(I still hate that Phi Mickleson blew a 2 shot lead on the final hole at Winged Foot in 2006 and never won a US Open)

Well... there's always "Can he win back-to-back green jackets?"
That's only been done three times before:
- Jack Nicklaus (1965 and 1966)
- Nick Faldo (1989 and 1990)
- Tiger Woods (2001 and 2002)

Can he win back-to-back? Hah, there you go...I suspect Rory won’t find that question nearly so disquieting as he did the “Can you finally win it?” question the last 10 years.
