Oh gawd, probably one of the worst movies of the 80's.
Have fun and flame away, its saturday.

I was 10 years out of high school at that time, so I can barely relate, but it was a great movie

That was a good movie.
It is however disconcerting that I now identify with the character of Richard Vernon as opposed to that geeky kid Brian Johnson.

Uglier today then they were then.

I never cared for Molly Ringworm. And I don’t think her career was very long.

C’mon, man. It had its moments. “Don’t You Forget About Me.”

Didn’t like it, but the 80’s had some fun movies and lots of fun music.

Probably the most iconic movie of the 80’s
Absolutely nailed high school “personalities” of that time. I was in High School from 77-81 (8th grade)
I’ve watched it with people much younger throughout the years and they were always engaged and said they were surprised at how good it was.

Not one of the worst, but definitely overrated.

I was in high school when that movie came out.
In this new era of streaming, we tend to forget how relevant commonly-shared media was back then. Literally everyone saw this movie, knew or at least recognized most of the lines, and referenced it almost daily in conversation.
It may not be one of the greatest movies of all time, but it was a shared experience for most of a generation of people and it did bind us together in a way at the time. Looking back, the only other movie of the time like that was probably “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”.

So, how did John Bender turn out after all these years? Was Mr. Vernon right?
