The Union Jack has been placed on shoes as long as I can remember since the punk era. I think Vans or Chuck Taylors had US flag themed shoes.

Nothing wrong with the sneakers or any apparel that has the flag on it as long as it’s not purposely shaming the flag. I have shirts with the flag on it, hats and even a pair of motorcycle boots with the flag on them and I wear them proudly as a patriot and veteran with 38 years of service both active and in DoD.

Technically it’s not a flag. It’s just the colors in a stylized representation of the national colors.
Not that I’d ever wear them. I do however have a couple stylized shirts that come out on occasion.
