America tried permanent daylight savings in the 70s. It started out popular but then became extremely unpopular once people realized it was dark all morning in the winter. There were extreme safety concerns for children going to school in the darkness

Part of the attraction of moving to SE Idaho was the late sunsets in Summer. Latest is 9:13 PM. There is a dark side to staying DST all year. The dark side is waiting until 9 AM for sunrise in January. You would still get a better sunset in January at 5:55 PM.

The value of the semi-annual switch between Standard and Daylight time is most pronounced in northern tier states. The southern states have less variation.

I’d rather see a saner approach where DST is for the summer months. Beginning on Memorial Day and ending in October. But I’ll shed no tears if it is eliminated all together.
