The homeless man who police say attacked two women in Soho with a glass bottle, viciously slashing one in the throat, has a history of arrests for assault and two felony convictions.
Tuesday afternoon, Muslim Brunson, 46, was awaiting arraignment for the Monday attacks on Megan Berg, a 25-year-old costume designer whose trachea was damaged, and the 29-year-old woman he struck over the head with the bottle near Broome St. and Wooster St. around 3 p.m.
Brunson has five prior arrests dating back to 2019, four of them for assault, police said.
In September 2019, he pushed a 13-year-old male passenger out of a train car and onto the platform at the Van Siclen Ave. subway station in Brownsville, Brooklyn, after snatching the teen’s cell phone, sources said.
Bail was set in that case, but Brunson was later released without bail, and the case was slated to move to mental health court.
After his release, Brunson missed at least one court date and so a bench warrant was issued. He was arrested after the warrant and was jailed from Feb. 2 to July 22, 2021, sources said.
On July 22, 2021, he was convicted of robbery after pleading in mental health court and released pending sentencing.
While awaiting sentencing, Brunson committed a felony assault, slamming a woman’s head into a subway pole aboard a Brooklyn-bound No. 4 train near the Fulton St. station on July 4, 2022, fracturing the victim’s cheekbone and an orbital bone, sources said.
Upon his arrest on July 6, 2022, he assaulted a cop, the sources added.
Brunson was again jailed until Dec. 7, 2022, when he pleaded guilty to attempted assault and was convicted of the 4 train attack, receiving a 364-day sentence, to run concurrently with the one-to-three-year sentence he received for the robbery

Following the precedent of Jordan Neely, Muslim Brunson should be allowed to continue doing what he has been doing.
Unless he’s white then of course he should be stopped.
Don’t know if the guy is a Muslim religious wise, if so, it is another case of a Muslim “with a history of violence and/or mental disease” going on a terror spree. Too many of these. I think it is a plot...they pretend they are crazy , get a history, then go on a shooting or mass murder spree. Then they get put away for 30-50 years, with 3 hots and a cot, and a prayer rug. Not a bad deal for a jihadist who is willing to die. Too many of these cases...check it out...
If he did the deed he should pay the price. Who gives a d*mn if he is mentally out of joint? It should carry no weight that he doesn’t understand that what he did is wrong. The bleeding hearts have to shut up and let justice take its course. Repeat offenders??? Step right up!

For goodness sakes, let the man go. It’s not as if he hurt somebody’s feelings on X. Now THAT could catch him some serious prison time.

“He’s going away for a long time.”
Followed by his release again and again and worse crimes later.
No, worthless justice system jerks, they are NOT going way for a long time. That is a shopworn cliche.
In the City of Detroit there has been a fad by “homeless” people making fake 911 calls. When the EMT staff arrives they take the person to the hospital and this is a way of “getting a free taxi ride” for the derelict.
The woman said in court for the rest of her life the deep slash wound scar on her face will remind her when she sees herself in the mirror of the man’s crime against her.
The next time you see a derelict think of how many of them are just like him. Ruthless. Selfish. Violent. Mentally deranged. Irresponsible.
