One of President Donald Trump’s picks for the U.S. Supreme Court turned on him Monday, siding with liberal justices in a bid to constrain his ability to deport illegal immigrants suspected by the administration of being affiliated with violent South American gangs.
MAGA conservatives are incensed with Justice Amy Coney Barrett, whom the president nominated and was confirmed for her role during his first administration. Barrett briefly became a right-wing celebrity after she held up her blank notebook during a U.S. Senate confirmation hearing to show that she brought no prepared talking points with her.
Now, she is under fire after conservative commentators online singled her out for attempting to limit President Trump’s ability to deport illegal immigrants under a wartime powers law known as the Alien Enemies Act. Barrett sided with the court’s three liberal justices in a dissent, written by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, stating that the administration’s conduct “poses an extraordinary threat to the rule of law.”
A majority of the justices overturned a lower court’s ruling temporarily halting U.S. flights deporting illegal immigrants to mega-prisons in El Salvador and countries of origin, though the freedom to resume movements comes with new restrictions.
Going forward, all deportees must be afforded their due process, and the ruling leaves the door open to future legal challenges if filed in Texas, where plaintiffs were being held, rather than an improper venue like in the case before the high court.
Rogan O’Handley, known as DC_Draino, wrote about Barrett, “While this Supreme Court victory for Trump allowing him to deport cartels is huge, it was only a 5-4 decision. Guess who joined the 3 liberal Justices to keep cartels here in America? Amy Coney Barrett.”
Catturd, another MAGA influencer who boasts 3.6 million followers on the platform, agreed.
“There’s nobody I have less respect for in the entire country besides Dr. Fauci than Amy Commie Barrett – Trump appointed her and gave her her dream job and complimented her and praised her – and she’s been an ungrateful, backstabbing POS since day one. She got a million dollar Liberal book deal within weeks and her whole goal in Life is to be praised by The New York Times,” they wrote, Newsweek reported.
The post added: “Weak, coward, sellout, fraud. She’s everything that’s wrong with this country. She’s an Absolute disgusting fraud.”
Other supporters of deportation proceedings noted that it was only the women on the court who opposed them.
“All the men on the Court voted the law. All the women, including Amy Coney Barrett, voted their feelings,” wrote conservative commentator Jeff Younger.
Although Barrett only sided with parts of Sotomayor’s dissent, glaring passages offer a window into her opposition to boundless deportations.
“If the District Court were to resolve the question in plaintiffs’ favor, the Government could have appealed to this Court in the ordinary course, and we could have decided it after thorough briefing and oral argument,” Sotomayor wrote in a passage co-signed by Barrett.
“In its rush to decide the issue now, the Court halts the lower court’s work and forces us to decide the matter after mere days of deliberation and without adequate time to weigh the parties’ arguments or the full record of the District Court’s proceedings.”
She was selected because she has a vagina. That was Ruth Bader Ginsburg‘s seat, so now it’s permanently a female seat. She voted in a block with the other females. All of the women had their mommy instinct kick in. It just seems so mean to send that guy to a prison. Never mind that he’s an MS 13 gang member. So they dress up their emotional decision and legalese.
Said it before, and I’ll say it again. Women have no place in a decision making body like that. They probably shouldn’t even go to law school or vote,. Don’t worry, I know that’ll never happen, except maybe in the aftermath of a nuclear war, or something like that.
Except you can't articulate a specific objection you have with AJ Barrett's joining the Dissent from yesterday.
Mommy issues, indeed.
It appears to me that ACB is not a fan of Trump. Which is funny because she should be thanking Trump for her job.
What do you think is going to happen?
I think it's already too late for Europe. I mean the Caliphate of Greater Alhambra. On the other hand, the 19th Amendment was a huge mistake. The natural order of things will reassert themselves. Whether by muzzy takeover of our Republic, or a paleo revolution.
And it will be women who lead the charge. They will be the ones who go with the strong horse.
Women are too soft when it comes to suppressing violence and war through terror.
Nonsense, women can be very practical and men can be very emotional. If Obama/Clinton had decided to appoint male judges, they would have chosen far left, illogical, emotional, clueless men, who would be making the same absurd rulings as these female judges.
Ok. Left wing men and both left and right wing women are more emotional and no matter the term, women on the Supreme Court tend to disappoint. Always have.
Barrett is not a conservative justice.
Anybody angry with single issue candidate Barrett needs to look back at which GOP politicians were pushing her. Everything will make sense.
I think it's time for a total pause on political correctness and a long overdue return to straight merit for at least two administrations, if not indefinitely. The rot is deep and maybe fatal unless we pull up and tighten up—we've been going down the "liberal" drain since 1945. The U.S. needs to give special interests a rest for awhile. I say this as a woman who has worked long and hard for equal treatment.
You're so sensible, LS; whereas others on this thread accusing her of emotionalism feel entitled to emote about it!
I agree, but5 you can’t argue with the overall support she has given Trump.
I do too, but 70%, especially on the huge cases, will do just fine.
She’ll have to move fast. She’s already far to the right of the Dead Kennedys.
You aren’t going to get another Thomas.
Maybe the judge in FL, maybe Ho.
Your standards are lower than mine.
My standards are always realistic, as were the Founders.
They didn’t expect perfection. Indeed, the whole Constitution and federal structure were designed based on the nation that people will do good much of the time and sin regularly.
If I did a good job 70% of the time for any client or employer, I’d be in trouble.
