So, we've got ourselves another stray animal story, this time we just don't know where the heck this bird came from.
An emu with injuries to their neck and right wing is safe at our Escondido Campus this morning. Our Humane Officers & Emergency Response Team received a call about the bird running loose in Vista last night. The emu will receive medical care while we search for a possible owner. pic.twitter.com/LQSJXWAX20โ San Diego Humane Society (@sdhumane) April 3, 2025
Yeah, in the San Diego suburbs some poor hurt emu was just wandering around helplessly on the streets. The humane society doesn't know where he came from or how he got to Vista.
The San Diego Humane Society said Humane Law Enforcement Officers and the Emergency Response Team responded Wednesday night to a report of a large bird wandering through a yard in Vista.
They arrived to find an emu with injuries to its neck and right wing.
Again ... this is really weird. I wonder how he could have been injured.
(Sorry, the gif was perfect)
One would assume it got out of some exotic animal farm or petting zoo nearby. But the fact that no owner has come forward is a bit odd.
The rescuers got the bird to a doctor and have named it "Claudius" because, well, I guess that's just what you name a stray emu.
Whatever they want to?

Yeah, they’re supposed to be pretty good eating, and some say their oil is good for arthritis.
Geeze.
No wonder theyโre cranky.
When I was a kid growing up in northern Mississippi, we got our TV from Memphis. They had a Saturday morning TV show for kids that had an Emu puppet..............
Anything on the ground. Seeds, leaves, bugs, mice, grubs, fruits, lizards, gravel,....etc.... I think that's an omnivore.
Ask for permission to use the old 12 gauge. Or just use SSS rules.
He’s the emuji that tried to get away.
Apparently, the emu has chosen it's pronouns as they/them/their. Or alternatively, there were multiple emus with the same injury.
They taste like dark meat turkey. I found the meat to taste exactly like Guinea Hens only less tough. In American markets I’ve never seen any of their meat being sold that wasn’t ground up.
the guy I posted was Rod Hull and his amazing emu. I first saw his act in the late 70s on a Saturday morning kids’ show called the hudson brothers.
They aren't as bad as the Progressive ads...
This is different how?
Best cooked sous vide or slow-cooked in a crockpot or pressure cooker.
Also wonderful smoked.
I hate both company ads. Probably hate Flo more Limu.
What about the new Jake from State Farm?
Flo is way past her best by date.
She stopped being funny years ago.
All these insurance companies are a big scam
We had that same problem in my county with donkeys. All the younger farmers and ranchers thought it was cool to own a couple. Then, a couple of donkeys turned into four, then eight, then they started finding ways of getting through the fences, and pretty soon we had donkeys running rampant all over the county. Nobody wanted to claim them, either. Since nobody claimed it, I have a feeling the same thing happened with that emu.
