To this day, there are still no trees on the island due to the salt water killing them. Many property owners made statues of the trunks.
Well, it gets 63 inches of rain a year! Seattle gets about 39 inches. It has about 140 days of rain Seattle has about 152. There are some differences, but “banana belt”? You decide!
I saw that port when I was there in 2021. Humongous!
Lake Louise/Banff, Alberta.
I heard it was warm and sunny for most of the year!
Spain.
It depends on your daughter’s age.
Branson is a great family destination. Use Save On Branson discount service for tickets to everything and hotel bookings, too. Family of 4 spent a week, went to multiple museums, dinner shows, theater productions and an amusement park and water park for about $1,500. Liked it so much we went back a second time.
Grand Canyon. Pictures don’t do it justice. The train ride is fun, get the most expensive experience with food there and back.
Monument Valley. Stay in an octogon and have a local guide give you a tour.
Roswell/Carlsbad Caverns. Roswell has some cool museums and Carlsbad Caverns is an adventure. There is also a bottomless lake about 20 minutes outside Roswell.
Alamogordo and Cloudcroft. Cool museums, sleigh ride on White Sands; Cloudcroft is a neat place to spend the day.
Las Vegas. For adults only, but lots to do. Stay at Ceasars. Great food, excellent rooms, multiple pools; otherwise, the Trump Hotel. Grab a day trip to the Hoover Dam.
Oklahoma City/Norman. Excellent museums, lots of history, kayak on the water. Went there twice.
Choctaw Nation, Oklahoma. Fun casino, live shows, museums, hiking, walking trails.

Austin, Texas. Sea World, museums, capitol tour, bat launch.
San Antonio. Riverwalk, baby! Check out the Caverns nearby.
Houston. Buy the city pass. NASA, museums, other attractions.
Mobile, Alabama. Hit the battleship and beaches.
Pensacola. Dolphin tour, military bases with museums, fishing boats, beaches, and awesome food.
Augusta and Atlanta. Canal trip, cute museums, aquarium, and more.
Myrtle Beach. Hold onto your wallet and don’t forget the beach!
Nashville. Grand Ol Opry; lots to see and do. Take a day trip to the Hidden Lakes Cavern in Kentucky and the Corvette Museum.
Pigeon Forge. Dolly World, Ark Adventure, and more.
Hershey, PA. Yes, that Hershey. Yum!
I would say NYC because of all the amazing museums, Broadway, 911 memorial, Statue of Liberty, but it’s not safe there anymore.
Washington, DC. Tour the White House, see the Capital building, visit the museums and the mall.
These are the ones I can think of. I didn’t include California because folks there can be crazy, too.
But if I could go anywhere? Canada.
Says nobody.
Tough choice, I'd probably pick somewhere like Kyoto, Japan. It’s got this perfect mix of history, nature, and amazing food -- temples, bamboo forests, peaceful gardens, and sushi that’d blow your mind. Plus, summer festivals there are super vibrant.
“…maybe Zion National Park.”
BTDT - can’t say I’d recommend it to anyone else. Beautiful & stunning views but I didn’t care for inching through it with all the other inchworms.
Yes...incredible to see the different hurrican water levels.
We used to go to Mardi Gras, in Galveston, every year ... until it got too .... crowded :-)
I live full time in a class a RV. If you have access to one yourself, or a class c RV, I would recommend Arkansas.
Just not during “the season”.
Nevada, area wise, is about 98% un-metastasized.
When I was a kid, we vacationed every summer at the C :Lazy U ranch in Colorado. Would love to take her there, but it’s $5,00 per week for each person now. My dad could afford the place, not sure we can.
Newport, RI?
I visited the Vanderbilt mansions in May last year and the breeze off the ocean was cold. The Breakers was packed even then.
The Preservation Society doesn’t open everything it owns until June.

There are lots of colonial towns in New England - Litchfield, Farmington, Deerfield, Bristol, RI, etc.
I liked Salem, Massachusetts.
Hit some National Parks. There are some that are reasonably close to each other. She could do a loop and visit several.
IMO, smart move to avoid New Orleans.
Oh, summer vacation spots! Depends on what you're craving—beach vibes, mountain air, or maybe a cool city escape?
For a classic sunny getaway, I’d say Maui, Hawaii. It’s got those postcard-perfect beaches, epic snorkeling at Molokini Crater, and the Road to Hana for some lush adventure.
If you’re more into cooler temps and hiking, Banff in Canada’s Rockies is unreal—turquoise lakes like Moraine and crisp mountain trails. Or, if you want a city buzz with summer flair, Barcelona’s got that Mediterranean charm, tasty tapas, and Gaudí’s wild
Thanks. We did visit Galveston a few years ago. Great place.
*Gaudi’s wild architecture.
