NEW YORK (AP) — In an unexpected upset, the Jason Statham thriller “A Working Man” took No. 1 at the box office, besting the rapidly declining “Snow White,” according to studio estimates Sunday.
Even after a lackluster debut, the Walt Disney Co.’s live-action remake was predicted to remain the top film in U.S. and Canadian theaters over the weekend. Instead, “Snow White,” plagued by bad buzz and backlash, nosedived in its second weekend and dropped 66%.
Amazon MGM Studios’ “A Working Man,” directed by David Ayer, beat expectations with a $15.2 million debut. Co-written by Sylvester Stallone, “A Working Man” reteams Statham and Ayer following last year’s successful “The Beekeeper” ($162 million worldwide). This time around, Statham plays a construction worker with an elite military past.
While reviews have been mixed and audiences only gave “A Working Man” a “B” CinemaScore, showing Statham has carved out something rare in the movie industry today: bankability. “A Working Man” opened similarly to “The Beekeeper,” which launched with $16.5 million.
The bigger headline might have been the fast erosion of ticket buyers’ appetite for “Snow White.” The film, directed by Marc Webb and starring Rachel Zegler, had been hoped to lift movie theaters after a painful start to 2025. Produced for more $250 million, the film has turned into a poisoned apple, with a two-week global haul of $143.1 million.
Next weekend, Warner Bros.’ “A Minecraft Movie,” is expected to win the weekend and will, like “Snow White,” target family audiences.
A trio of newcomers – A24’s “Death of a Unicorn,” Universal and Blumhouse’s “The Woman in the Yard,” and the Fathom’s “Chosen: The Last Supper” – also opened over the weekend, though none made a big impact.
“The Chosen: The Last Supper,” fared the best, with $11.5 million in 2,235 theaters.

Well that’s odd. 😂😂😂😂
Sorry Mickey. Go woke; go broke!!!
A two hour test pattern could beat Snow Woke at this point.
The “Beekeeper” had a big cast. But the plot was silly. All over the place. It was like a hodgepodge of different movies.
Exactly.
Typically a family movie will leave an Action movie in dust as far as box office receipts are concerned.
However Disney decided that it would make an anti-family Snow White.
Not specific to that movie but I get the feeling that all the writers in Hollywood are on LSD.
“Chosen” nearly put Snow Woke in third place. Zegler is now hiding somewhere in Dubai and Disney is making noises about recovering some of their loss from her contract - she is, after all, contractually obligated to promote, not demote, the movie. Her media allies have made an ineffectual effort to blame the whole thing on Gadot. That’s not a dumpster fire, that’s the whole dang landfill going up.
Why in the world would Gal Gadot ever want to look like Rachel Zegler??
To be fair, Rachel Zegler did not get paid that much for the movie.
And it's mostly Disney's fault.
The old Hollywood studio system would have handled Zegler. No social media from Day One (unless it's handled by a publicist).
Disney had no problems with Zegler's antics until they realized that she went too far. And it's costing them money now.
Yep, they decided to reimagine and update it. As Rachel said, the original is from 1937, it’s not 1937 anymore, the prince was a stalker, etc. So much for fairy tales. Being politically correct overrides everything else, even if a storyline is a fairy tale and clearly fiction.
I thought Snow Woke bombed at the box-office .
So this means there are even worse movies.
I haven’t seen a movie at the theatre for many many years. See what I want on AMZ Prime and a friend in our senior complex, who grew up in Hollywood, shows weekly movies at our clubhouse. He has almost every movie ever made on DVDs. He’s showing Cabaret, starring Liza Minelli, in June for my birthday. IMHO, a great flick.
And that’s saying something!
I don’t know how to find the pics captioned “you say you want this” with a picture of pajama boy drinking hot chocolate, next to “but you really want this” with a photo of a fireman or a national guard soldier wading through three feet of water holding a woman in his arms. But if Woke Snow White falls to A Working Man, that’s what’s operating.
To be honest, I thought the Evil Queen was hotter in the Disney cartoon, too. But I’m partial to bad girl brunettes.
Good news, Disney won’t have to waste more money producing DVDs for this...
Judy Jetson's more my thing.
