Big day! Just finished the major construction on (2) 3x6’ raised beds. I still need to line them with weed barrier & put them together. When I do put them together, they need to be close to where they’ll be sited permanently because all 4 sides together are pretty heavy.

Also, I got a load of topsoil delivered today. Around here, they sell mulch & topsoil by the ‘scoop’. I got 4 scoops - the max the truck could carry, but I don’t know if I have enough to fill the beds. I am thinking about hauling a load of mulch myself (different source - bigger scoop!) & partially fill the beds with that - beds are 16” deep. The mulch will eventually decompose, but it will give me time to build the beds up with compost, etc.

The topsoil is on a tarp on our asphalt parking area, right next to mom’s 3 beds. Zero percent rain today & for the rest of the week in the forecast. Hmmm, what is that really dark cloud coming over the mountain? A 10 minute downpour is what it was. I got a smaller tarp over 2/3 of the pile so maybe it won’t be a mud puddle.

I bought an oregano today at Walmart (along with 3 ferns on sale for the front porch) so now, with a rosemary & lavender, I have 3 plants for the herb garden. My niece gave me 4 small dahlias she started from seed on Saturday, plus I have 2 tubers of Kelvin Floodlight. The pressure is on to have some place to plant them!

Happy for your progress! We are stuck in a rainy patch again, so not much is getting done outside this week. But we desperately need the rain.

My flat of Dahlia from seed FINALLY sprouted, so they're going to the greenhouse, today. Using bins and boxes to cover things up overnight seems to be keeping the mice at bay. Jinx! The peanut butter traps will help, too. It just occurred to me that I've had PUPPIES playing and napping in there for the past six years and mice have not been a problem until THIS Spring with NO puppies, so I'm seeing a pattern, here. Duh. While the Puppies' are away, the Mice will play! I passed on 'Kelvin' this season for 'Creme de Casis:'
