I bought a 15,000 lumen high bay light a while back and finally got it hanging in the shop a few days ago. Hung it up in the old grow room up here once and I think I could have used it to start a room full of seedlings. Made a pretty good heater too.

Been working on the wiring in the tunnel and doing it more properly than last Fall when I was winging it and figuring things out.

Whittled down and reconfigured the drip for the tunnel. The drip stuff will be on it's third configuration this time. Just need a 50' roll of the brown drip emitter tubing to do the 3rd of the three inner beds. Menard's has them for $10/ea. Then later on after I finish the tunnel, two more rolls for the outer beds.

Got the travel trailer cleaned up a little which gives me room to take a bunch of stuff from shed and put in there. Gonna finish organizing the shed today/tomorrow. Guess I'll bring a space heater with me and aim it at me. Gotta tidy up the side that has a wall of shelves but currently has a bunch of stuff on one floor in front of them. Cleaned up the other side yesterday.

The AG research center up the road from me says they got 1.37" of rain so far today. http://agebb.missouri.edu/weather/realtime/cookstation.php. They've had an inch of rain before when I got none though and visa versa.

Need to get my bucket rain gauge set back up. Had it up by the house but it's going down by the tunnel now like all the weather sensors. Post hole for it is already dug(and probably full of water). Will have to dig a little trench from it to the tunnel for the cable. Can't put any weather sensors too close to the tunnel because the wind hitting, going over and coming back down the tunnel will have an effect, whether it's wind direction or speed or even rain.

Wind sensor will have to go further away. Think it's going underneath the guy wire for the electric pole. Ought to be safe there and the pole shouldn't mess with the reading too much as far as blocking wind.

Most of my seeds have sprouted. A few things haven't done anything but some of the seeds were sold for the 2020 season so they're 5 years old. Could still pop up though.

Is that “15,000 lumen high bay light” you bought “a while back” an LED light? Even at 1 watt per every 100 Lumens it’d be kicking out 150 watts, and an older unit might not be quite that efficient.

In any event, yeah, 15k Lumens should start lots of seedlings. ;-) That’s kinda what I have in mind with these two (rated) 8000 lumen lights — or, I may try seeing if they’ll further reduce seedling “spindlyness”.

My old heat sink grease is rather dried up, but, it turns out “SuperLube” has a very good deal on a 3 oz. tube of heat sink grease: $11.65 on Amazon. It’s probably not quite good enough for cooling the latest and greatest Intel CPU’s, but, I figure LED’s that survive an hour without heat sink grease for their obviously intended & fairly decent heat sink will last 10 years with “pretty good” heat sink grease. :-) This stuff is silicone base - it should hold up practically forever, and 3 oz. will last me a good while. Then again, almost nothing I’ve seen from China that should use the stuff has it, or has it properly applied...

I got back to the wellhouse and pulled the old 30 micron* polypropylene hard foam filter element, replacing it with same except with 30 micron SS screening wrapped around it, held on tightly by a little hot-melt glue. Full flow water is back for a while, and I should be able to clean my creation - theoretically...

The old filter’s outside surface was covered with more grit and fibers that I’ve seen before - testament to several days of heavy rains’ ability to bring more of the coarse type sediment to the filter, I suppose.

The screen may not work because:

*The “30 micron” polypropylene hard foam filter element looks as if it is a lot “tighter” porosity than the 30 micron SS screen. So, the foam filter may effectively “load up” internally almost as fast as it’s previous brothers. I need to look at this under higher magnification — my eyes are holding up better than average for my age, but are not what they once were, especially up close. (My distance vision OTOH has actually improved over my last 30 years and except for an astigmatism in one eye, is nearing 20/20 again!)

The above foam porosity is particularly puzzling, as I’d expect a “layered” filter rated @ 30 microns would be 30 microns at the innermost layer, and coarser to the outside. I should also cut one of these used foam filters in half, and I have just such a used filter from before our heavy rains, all nice and finally dried out.

Eventually I’ll likely go with one of those disc filters, but, a better understanding of whether those filters I’ve been using are really “30 micron” or not would help in choosing new filter elements. :-)
