Need some discussion of your interest, participation and willingness to continue our thread
If the time has come to close down shop - that’s okay. We’re all busy and spend our screen time where we are drawn
We can get news anywhere…here we come for that but more so the social connections - friendship
Well, there seems to be very little discussion these days, and I’ve gotten out of the habit of checking in much of the time. I know, however, as soon as it’s shut down, I’ll come across all kinds of things I want to share.
Up to you, Dolly. It’s been ten years. It’s been fun.
I discovered Free Republic by pure chance on November 3, 1998.
I attended an Election Victory Watch Party in celebration of a candidate running for a United States Senate seat, that was held in a hotel ballroom in Schaumburg, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The winning freshman Senator was Peter Goslin Fitzgerald. He was part of a conservative group that preceded the Tea Party, known as the Fab Five in the Republican ranks of Illinois politicians.
One by one, the Fab Five were picked off by the Combine or Uniparty, leaving only Fitzgerald standing and victorious. He was the first Republican to win an Illinois US Senate seat in 20 years. Needless to say, and no surprise, as he was essentially taken out after 6 years by the systemically corrupt GOP RINOS. Fitzgerald was the maverick that John McCain could only imagine he saw in himself. I recommended Fitzgerald for Vice President, but nothing came of it, and I suspect he turned down any offer that may have come his way from the Trump team. I digress...
Back on topic: A fellow victory party attendant had taken a NEWSMAX yard sign and on the back scrawled Free Republic’s www URL.
Upon arriving back at my hotel room, or perhaps it might have been even later on at my domicile, I looked up this website. In short order, I was hooked, although I did lurk for almost 2 years before registering and posting “live.”
Lo and behold, here I am posting “live” with a 27-year relationship under my belt, communicating with a “mostly” outstanding online community. There is no escaping the cold, hard reality that there is also a component of turds in the punchbowl that seem to be increasing rather than decreasing here at Free Republic. Aside from that unfortunate aspect, I am all in “presenting” until death do us part.

As to brass tacks, let the thread run on... for months on end if need be, and if anyone is so inclined, they can construct a new thread as they see fit.

I enjoyed and greatly appreciated the rally threads, prompting me to attend 4 Trump rallies live. Going back to the Obama, Bush eras, I participated in 10 Support the Troops rallies live, traveling within Illinois, and across the country, visiting Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC.
And, motivated further, from political activism originating from this website, I served downrange in Afghanistan, and Iraq, for 40 months supporting our troops in the “War on Terror.”

It’s been one hell of a ride, AND WE’RE JUST GETTING STARTED!

The Trump Train has no brakes, but the spineless backstabbing Republican choo choo train does. Enter sad trombone sound here.

Dolly and gang-
I am sorry I have not been around much lately-
The last two weeks in February, I was the sickest
I have ever been, and that’s no lie!
Projectile vomiting, ugh!
I think it was the Norovirus, and it laid me low.
I caught it a few days after a fun shopping trip.
It is tough on you, and really tough if you have
COPD.
I am so careful about keeping my hand clean, but
some tines, no matter how vigilant we are, many
people are not!
When out shopping, USE the wipes provided by the
store to wipe down your shopping basket/cart.
Use your shoulder or elbows to open doors while
out in public.
Keep your hand away from your face!
Could be the cashier didn’t wash their hands-
or the person bagging your groceries, etc.
(Wash hands after putting away your canned goods, too!)
Some how, I picked it up and, man it was BAD!
It took fully TWO weeks to come back from it.
Then, all that cruddy weather=blue funk.
I want our thread to continue, and I promise
I will contribute more to it from here on out!
A special thank you to Jemian, for all her contributions
even when she herself was not feeling so great.
A special thank you to Exit 82, for fixing us breakfast every morning
and posting stuff all day long to keep
us up to snuff on headline news.
A special thank you to Norsky for posting beautiful pictures
and memes, even while on vacation!
To ALL who contributed that I might not have named,
Thank YOU, too!
The BIGGEST thanks you of all-
Is to YOU, Dolly, for soldiering on when the rest of us
could not, and for continuing the thread despite great odds!
Let’s all promise to help her more, when we can!
You guys are the best!
Love and thanks to you ALL.
Ms.B
Hi everyone!
I don’t have a new computer. My daughter got herself a new one and gave me her old one. Who knows how long it will last.
I had a wonderful time at Newport Beach in Oregon. There were seven of us. My son and DIL and 4 of their friends. It rained the whole time we were there but it would stop whenever we went out site seeing or to lunch. We were all in a house together. It looked right out at the ocean so when raining we just enjoyed the view. I was able to breath the whole time there, but as soon as I got back to my home in the desert area of WA state my nose plugged right up and I sneezed and sneezed and sneezed.
I sent a couple of pictures to Cotton and Dolly so if they would like to post them that would be ok. I have never been able to figure out how to post pictures from my cell phone. If I take pictures on my camera (which I rarely do anymore) I can post those pictures.
Most of you may recall the interactions I have had with my husbands niece in California. She has really gone off the deep end. One time she unfriended me on facebook, then asked to friend me back. I asked her if she was sure as I would more than likely be posting political stuff she didn’t like. She then went ahead and made me a friend again.
Well a short while ago my oldest daughter posted about the Tesla Dealership in Canada being vandalized. This niece answers her by posting a link and saying look what is happening here. It turns out you can’t see what is on the link unless you “Join” I joined so I could see what she was refering to. It is called “50501” and it is supposedly a grassroots political organization founded to protest the policies and actions of the second Donald Trump administration in the United States. They were behind the rallys on 4-5-25 in 50 states. Here is a sample. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pr4YwdXtnnA
It turns out the reason she posted the link is to show that even though “they” were having a “peaceful” protest a guy named Doug Huhn (running for congress) in Rocklin, Ca was attacked by a MAGA Vet. So she says it goes both ways and then tells me she is NOT endorsing Huhn. I found the video that he posted about this altercation (no long available) and it doesn’t show anyone hitting. What it does show is HE came over to the MAGA protestors side of the street and started verbally attacking. When people kept asking for the video that show the Vet actually hitting him one was NEVER shown. Here is this guy. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Ntz6yxZBnB4
So long story short after the back and forth with my husbands niece (she can’t take the truth) this time she not only unfriended me but she completely “Blocked” me. I learned from my daughters she just got divorced from her second marriage (first husband died) after being married to the second one for only about 4 yrs. I am going to assume she didn’t like his political beliefs because things appeared fine until Trump was elected.
In private messages to my daughters she said her two kids (boy and girl) I think boy is gay, are looking for jobs outside of the US because they are scared. Her daughter is a winemaker and she says with all the deportations there will be nobody to pick the grapes. Then just recently according to my daughters being able to see her facebook page her daughter is NOW going to be the head master of a NEW wine company starting up near San Diago. I would like to be able to say to her what happened with NO one to pick the grapes.
Anyway we can’t get lackadaisical and think we have it all in the bag. The 50501 organization is planning something for the 19th. The site I can see is only for California and it appears they are all confused as to what is actually going to take place on the 19th. Also there is usually only 20 to 40 responses to the postings.
I have blabbered along enough and will close with this.
Dolly, if you or Cotton (when she is able) want to keep it going I will try to contribute occasionally. It is nice to be able to keep in touch and get some news.
