I usually don’t answer my phone unless it is from someone I know or a company I have business with.
Today, phone rang, and it said it was JPMorgan Chase and I do have a credit card with them. I hesitated, but thought, heck maybe they are calling to tell me my account was hacked.
So I answered, and after a long silent pause where I could hear the phone bank in the background, a lady said hello? I said Hello.
Of course she asks if this is ‘insert my name’ and since I dislike answering their questions, I ask who is this? And in her Indian/Pakistani accent she says this is ‘can’t understand her name’ with Department of Health and Human Services.
I ask her why my phone ID says JPMorgan, and she says ‘i don’t know’ She then spells my last name and asks if that is correct. I say yes (damn I answered her ...this is why I don’t like to answer the phone... I am weak and stupid! lol)
She then asked if I was at ‘insert my address here’, so I hung up!
Surely the Dept of Health and Human Services doesn’t just call ppl on phones? but then I thought, heck maybe with all the chaos going on in govt, maybe they are checking real accounts? Is Social Security et al now with Human Services?
Am a little worried, but just curious what y’all think. :)
They are very sneaky. We have to be vigilant all the time.
I would not worry for one minute. I am the same as you. I never pick up the phone unless I know who it is.
My guess, going by the Indian/Pakistani accent, is fraud, or something just as credible. They probably have their phone ID set up so people answer, and you’re right....Health and Human Services would not just call you. The fact that there was silence, then you heard the phone bank and then her saying “Hello?” tells me it was a scam call. Back when I used to bother answering, just in case, as soon as I realized I was waiting for those few seconds of silence, that’s when I’d hang up.
I’d make that your rule going forward.....when you pick up and say hello and just hear the silent pause, hang up!
