“What are you thoughts on the newly chosen Pope?”

They say to look to the name the Pope takes on as to how he will conduct himself. He took on the name Leo and Leo the 13th was all about social change.

What was Leo 13th social change? “Pope Leo XIII’s social doctrine, particularly articulated in his 1891 encyclical Rerum Novarum (Of New Things), focused on advocating for workers’ rights, emphasizing both the dignity of labor and the rights of property owners. It addressed the social and economic changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution, including the rise of capitalism and the plight of the working class.”

Since those things seem to have been taken care of, look to what social changes so many are demanding today.

“As a Cardinal, Robert Prevost (now Pope Leo XIV) was known for posting on social media, reflecting his perspective grounded in Catholic social teaching. He frequently shared and reposted content critical of certain political stances, particularly regarding immigration and related issues, and advocated for principles of human dignity and protection for migrants.
Here’s a more detailed look at his social media posts:
Immigration:
Prevost consistently criticized harsh immigration policies and advocated for a path rooted in human rights rather than exclusion. He shared articles decrying family separation policies and emphasized the Church’s obligation to welcome the stranger.
Social Justice:
He expressed support for the Black Lives Matter movement and the importance of rejecting racism and seeking justice, highlighting his commitment to social justice.
Political Stances:
Prevost reposted articles critical of President Trump’s immigration policies, according to CBS News and USA Today, according to NPR and the New York Times, and Vice President JD Vance’s views on religion.
Other Issues:
He also shared messages in support of vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

I just learned this:

Pope Leo XIV’s great-grandparents on his maternal side were identified as Black or “mulatto” in historical records, particularly in Louisiana. Specifically, his maternal great-grandparents, Joseph Martinez and Louise Baquié, were described as such in census documents and other records. These records also indicate their Creole heritage, with family living in New Orleans and later migrating to Chicago.
Here’s a more detailed breakdown:
Maternal Great-Grandparents:
Joseph Martinez and Louise Baquié were identified as Black or mulatto in census records.
Creole Roots:
Their origins were tied to the Creole community in New Orleans, a blend of French, Spanish, African, and Native American cultures.
Migration to Chicago:
The family moved from New Orleans to Chicago, where they eventually had Mildred Martinez, Pope Leo XIV’s mother.
Racial Identity:
Some sources indicate that the family may have changed their racial identifiers to “white” on later censuses.
Historical Significance:
This discovery highlights the rich and sometimes overlooked history of Black Catholics and Creole culture in America.

He was envolved in a sexual coverup of another clergy.

“The group said that as provincial supervisor in Chicago for the Augustinian order in 2000, Prevost allowed a priest accused of abusing at least 13 minors to live at the Augustinian order’s St. John Stone Friary in Hyde Park, half a block from St. Thomas the Apostle Elementary School.”

I also learned that Pope Francis created Robert Francis Prevost a cardinal in September 2023. Which then made it possible for him to become a Pope.

I hadn’t realized how political Popes are. It will be interesting to see the direction this one goes, but with all this information I think we can tell.
