I may be old fashioned, but I believe God doesn't need a special man-made box to live in. Not God. The Ark, wherever it is. has been empty for 85 years now - it's power seemingly depleted.
But when this being finally dies...

...it's power will return and it'll be the most dangerous device on the planet once again.

He did at the time of the Old Testament. His orders. He was there until the glory left the Temple as described in the Book of Ezekiel. He left due to Israel’s idolatry.
