I missed it when released in 1959. Finally saw it in 1975 double feature with Golden Voyage of Sinbad. Still love it!

Last time I was in a movie theater was 2010 for the True Grit remake at our local 6 Plex.
Today’s movies are for young airhead people infatuated with CGIs and AI. In the olden days a superhero movie would be filmed in black and white, with a budget to match, lousy script and special effects, be shown on the bottom half of a double bill drive in with Hercules and the Men From Mars.
To day they are given top billing, Spandex superheros, lots of CGIs millions to make and are not worth setting through.
Probably has a lot more to do with the lack of a beat book than anything. Modern movies are so “timed” (each part of a plot happens at well designated points) that they start to feel the same. The beat book didn’t come into being until the mid-90s and really because a driving factor in the early 2000s, so movies before then don’t have this hard structure and actually don’t feel like the same movie over and over.
Love Jimmy Stewart, great actor. Love Greg Peck in “The Big Country” best fight scene ever between him and Charlton Heston.
Humphry Bogart was excellent in everything he did. Just a great actor. Currently, Dennis Quaid is at that level.
For me, the “King of Cool” was truly Robert Mitchum. And he was a Republican who endorsed Goldwater and Reagan.
Another favorite was George Raft, when there was drama to keep you interested.
I doubt if today’s teens could set through the first part of 55 DAYS AT PEKING or KHARTOUM or FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE.
Back then there was real drama between the action sequences, not like a roller coaster ride from start to finish.

The Caine munity was an awesome movie.
Jose Ferrer stole the movie, he was great. Really wished he would have slugged Fred MacMurray, he deserved it.
I watch old westerns and when you look at what those stunt men were doing in the 1930s and 40s, and 50s, I bet they were in sorry shape by their 50s, sometimes you wonder if the guy broke his neck or if the horse trampling ruined him.
Have you seen the new remake of LAND THAT TIME FORGOT (2025) by chance? I loved the original as a kid, so I was just curious.
And instead of shooting it out with the bugs all they really needed was some DDT. I read the book after seeing the movie. Last paragraph is a hoot!
