Many men do not expect a woman to have a high powered career and don't place great value in it in terms of selecting a mate. If most had to choose between a hot young secretary or waitress and an average looking 35 year old corporate exec with an advanced degree making a couple hundred thousand per year would choose the former every time.

Its pointless to condemn each sex for preferring what they do in a mate. Its nature/evolution and its not going to change. People might as well just accept that. No amount of social pressure is ever going to change it.
