After a handful of underwhelming relationships and dozens of disappointing first dates, Andrea Vorlicek recently called off the search for a husband.
The 29-year-old always thought she’d have found her life partner by now. Instead, she’s house hunting solo and considering having kids on her own.
“I’m financially self-sufficient enough to do these things myself,” said Vorlicek, a Boston-based accountant. “I’m willing to accept being single versus settling for someone who isn’t the right fit.”
She sees her plans for an independent future as making the best of a lousy situation. “I don’t want to sit here and say I’m 100% happy,” Vorlicek said. “But I feel happier just accepting my reality. It’s mentally and emotionally a sense of peace.”
American women have never been this resigned to staying single. They are responding to major demographic shifts, including huge and growing gender gaps in economic and educational attainment, political affiliation and beliefs about what a family should look like.
“The numbers aren’t netting out,” said Daniel Cox, director of the survey center at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a conservative think tank. He ticked off the data points: More women than men are attending college, buying houses and focusing on their friendships and careers over dating and marriage.

going to be an old grandpa.
At least, not happening here. Am I disappointed, yeah, because i’d be a great grandfather. At best, i am a distant surrogate uncle. It is what it is. My favorite grandson is Scotch.
I think I see the problem.
LOL!!!
You ask your fiance to marry you and some ugly, bitter, childless, Leftist harridan enters the marriage contract as a representative of The State.
Family courts need to be dismantled and "family law" written out of the books. There is no place for the insanity and falsehoods of "family law".
I am sorry to hear that, doc. I know a few couples whose offspring either did the fayg thing or didn’t marry and they chose the great aunt and uncle route.
You can stuff your girl power b-word.
Looking at the number of single mothers with children, I would have to think that women have given up on marriage quite some time ago. And, from the number of children that they have in tow, they gave up on it several time.
It appears White, College Educated women are a major threat to the welfare of this country.
It was surprising to me that NBC actually aired this, but maybe not.
They could have, and tried, but they decided they no longer wanted children, after a few years of marriage, when it wasn’t forthcoming. Instead, she embraced being an aunt, and he, an uncle, on both sides of the marriage. They did have pets (2 cats and a dog), and now only the blind, 3-legged doggie remains. He’s an inspiration. They’re both in their mid-60’s to early 70’s now. Great people. That little dog is as close to a kid as they were ever granted. Would’ve been great parents, but some things aren’t meant to be.
Most women today are blubbery bitches.
“The quality of American men probably has something to do with it”
Ya THINK? :-)
. These men aren’t coming back. They didn’t walk away to teach society a lesson, they walked away because they learned theirs
If a good Christian man finds a good Christian woman, they are both blessed. If either just “thinks they are mostly Christian, but we have to accept others and not be judgemental about anything”, they are doomed. And one of the “life partners “ will be miserable for life. A spouse Is definitely different from a life partner.
“The man is the prize.”
You need to get out more.
You forgot the Chardonnay and the ylang-ylang candles.
Nothing says "romance" like a date with a turkey baster in a room with the right ambience.
I’m old.
And with age and experience comes wisdom. I’ll wager that you never held a burning 🔥 match til OUCHSONOFABITCH more than once. And you understand fire.
I get it, she's family - blame the guys.
...but she picked "loser candidates for a decade" until she settled for "the nice guy" at 32.
Don't blame the fruit of the orchards - look at the picker.
