So much was going on in the article, I wasn’t sure who wss making those bigoted remarks
For any pilot to be so unprofessional is unacceptable
Pilot’s name nit mentioned? Could it be...Ibrahim Alljoosarescum?
Tulum is a very popular tourist destination with kosher facilities and a Chabad House and rabbi. Who knew?
There are cases of terrorists disguised as hareidi Jews. Airliners can’t take chances with unusual behavior.
There are too many other people depended on the only option available.
Constipated? Tough shit!
These were orthodox Jews. Not likely to be suicidal terrorists. The story doesn’t say whether DHS found anything suspicious on them, but with the searches done before a person can even get on a plane I don’t know what kind of plot could be carried out in the bathroom.
I’m sorry for your losses, and it’s understandable that you would be on high alert.
“That’s where the shoe bomber lit the fuse on his bomb.”
Yep. And we pay pilots to remember these things.
As I said before, fake news. No one returning from Mexico experiences constipation.
Gotta love the pictures of an airline toilet and door. I’d have never known.... S/ for those that dense.
Why would a terrorrist not dress like someone he is not?
That’s all the pilot needs to know as far as I am concerned
If the pilot was landing the aircraft and this guy would not get into his seat and buckle up, the pilot would have to drag him out. He can’t land with a person or any object loose in the cabin. I know I don’t want this guy landing on me at landing speed/crashing speed
If the pilot has to land now for the safety of all in running out of fuel doing go around for traffic that’s as vital as getting any shoe bomber the hell back in his seat now.
I have never heard that one before in my life, and yet I understood instantly. That's one for the collection, boy....
Yeah, the food in Mexico has a way of doing strange things to ya, that's for sure.
Whats this guy doing for 30 minutes in the bathroom? Is he mak8ng a bomb? Setting a fire? 0 minutes in the bathroom is a safety concern, he was asked to get out numerous times, 30 minutes?? I’m with the pilot on this.
You are correct. Lavatory doors do not have a key lock. From the inside you slide the deadbolt latch which secures the door closed and brightens the Lav lights. From the outside there is not a keyhole. There is a hidden latch as you stated. Crew rest compartment doors have a key for access. Also, there is no ignition key to start the engines.
Here's what I think happened.
I'd bet money he was seated next to someone he didn't want to be, a woman perhaps, asked to be reseated and was told no.
As soon as the plane reached cruising altitude and the seatbelt sign went off (typically about 30 minutes into the flight), he decided he'd spend the remainder of his flight seated in the lavatory.
Some of these ultra-Orthodox Jews are very demanding.
Reading all the responses, I think there probably is more to this story than has been reported. I should have looked beyond the report.
It is true that terrorists disguise themselves. It’s also true that at least for a time (don’t know if it’s still this way) people from nations that have a lot of terrorists were able to board planes without going through the searches). I think I remember hearing that they weren’t requiring searches of people wearing burkas either - but were patting down nuns.
I don’t see why the pilot was doing something other than flying the plane though. Maybe the “more to the story” is that the guy somehow jammed the lock from the inside so the attendants couldn’t open the door with the key and the only one strong enough to bust open the door was the pilot - in which case this guy’s actions put the whole plane at risk if the pilot was needed to actually fly the plane at that point. If that’s the case, then this guy is a fool to sue because discovery will not be kind to him.
Maybe this was a dry run, to see how the plane’s security would react to a locked bathroom door.
A lot of variables. I should have thought of those variables. Especially since this is the Daily Mail reporting, I should have realized there was probably more to the story.
The Jew-baiting was out of line. But as you say, there were probably a bunch of other variables. A pilot doesn’t stop piloting to go bust down the bathroom door and throw a guy out of it for no reason - especially when the attendants have the key.
“ the door was the pilot - in which case this guy’s actions put the whole plane at risk if the pilot was needed to actually fly the plane at that point. “
?
There are 2-3 pilots on a United flight. All of whom are responsible for the safety of the aircraft
That includes physically placing uncooperative people on board in restraints I am sure
I know that’s what I expect of any pilot when I’m flying
When people suspect that the pilot is an idiot then we have a problem
I do not expect the pilot to be an idiot. I have no reason to. And I have every reason not to
I expect passengers to be un-vetted for idiocy. I expect the news media to by in-vetted for idiocy
Dont need to break the lock. They have a hidden override on most bathroom doors.
Exactly. They've had terrorists prep in the bathroom.
You could jam a sliding lock from the inside pretty easily.
Anyways, I suspect this had nothing to do with constipation and everything to do with his seating assignment.
