Washington has discussed with Ukraine the control of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant as part of a potential peace deal, U.S. President Donald Trump said on March 13.
Trump's remarks come days after Kyiv agreed to a 30-day ceasefire proposed by Washington during the talks in Jeddah on March 11, provided that Russia did as well. The talks also concerned potential territorial concessions, according to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump said that Ukraine and the U.S. had discussed a lot of details of the final deal, including "concepts of land."
"We have been discussing with Ukraine land and pieces of land that would be kept and lost and all of the other elements of a final agreement," Trump said.
"There's a power plant involved, a very big power plant involved. Who is going to get the power plant, and who is going to get this and that, and so you know it's not an easy process. But phase one is the ceasefire," he added.
The largest nuclear plant in Europe, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in the city of Enerhodar, has been under Russian occupation since 2022. While the facility remains under Russian control, it is not currently generating electricity.
Ukraine and its allies have repeatedly urged Russia to withdraw its troops from the plant. Throughout its occupation, the plant has been repeatedly disconnected from the Ukrainian power grid due to Russian attacks on the country's energy infrastructure.

Looks like they will have to share the electricity as part of the deal. Nothing wrong with that, the Ukrainian population in those areas is still quite large.
We need a pool guessing the date the agreement gets signed.
I’ll take May 9.
Trump is trying to forge post war economic cooperation between Russia and Ukraine
Both countries are in not the best economic health the both are going to need all the help they can get to rebuild

The Art of the Deal.
Russia is going to leave ZPP as well as occupied Kherson and Zaporizhzhia in exchange for Crimea and occupied Donbas territory as Russian territory.
Cease fire by Easter. Peace deal after Ukrainian elections in the fall.
That will have to be a large DMZ, through which peaceful traffic can transit. Both countries can boom economically, with the coal, nuclear energy, wheat, minerals, pipelines, and ports.
Interestingly, IIRC, this year the Catholic and Orthodox Easter fall on the same day. A sign from above?
President Trump has been pushing for the Easter ceasefire since he was reelected.
That could be an acceptable, even if regrettable, deal if the Russians could climb down from their maximalist demands.
Land and sea transit rights are part of the proposed deal. And Russia wants to reconstitute their Black Sea Fleet and return to Sevastopol.
If that happens, in the spirit of POTUS, Iwant recognition that I predicted it...
In January.

I’m sure I said it even earlier than that. There’s never been anything but a massive tar baby for Russia in trying to hold onto the depopulated parts of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.
Mariupol to Rostov is a prize and Ukraine couldn’t afford its reconstruction. Dittos Crimea. Tough sell to Ukraine but they’ll have to concede.
Enerhodar under American protection would be a good compromise allowing Russia to withdraw without losing face. Ukraine has the expertise to out it back into commission... While Russia lacks the wherewithal. The npp will be inoperable if the russkies carry on using it as a car park.
Putin’s ports and airbases in occupied Crimea are under Ukrainian fire control. And 30% of his Black Sea flotilla sleeps with the fishes. Crimea has no economy now. Another reason why Putin will return ZNPP and occupied Kherson and Zaporizhzhia as part of the deal.
At this point Ukraine has shown that Crimea is militarily useless but Putin will want to hold on to it because of prestige. He has staked his reputation on it and it will be hard for him to give it up.
grifter Z-ski will have to give up the nuke plant. He already has about 4 others.Electricity sharing is fine....
.
i wish Trump success. This war needs to end.
After russia clears Kursk a ceasefire may be possible.
I think Trump could get russia to give up claims on annexed but not captured territory.Russia isn’t giving any captured territory back-nor should they. Normalizing relations and ending sanctions could get them on board...
No more US dollars for ukes!

What kind of bandit “nation” steals a nuclear power plant? Banditry is in the very fabric of Russian history and modern society.
Yes. It’s why Trump-Putin must not echo Molotov-Rippentropp.
Not just in terms of the egregious land grab deal, but in precedents set by Hitler violating the agreement.
Germany violated the deal, triggering a regional war that escalated into a world war.
So what happens if Russia and the USA enter into a similar arrangement and Putin attacks parts of Ukraine in the American sector?
I’m fed up of the “because Zelensky wants war, Putin doesn’t” narrative excuse for refusing to discuss (even in principle) security guarantees. If Putin won’t guarantee to stay in his lane unless the”peacekeeping” is done entirely without Ukraine, Europe or American personnel, the Trump mineral deal is worthless. Unless he doesn’t mind having Kadyrovites and Wagner PMC doing it...
