An American Airlines flight caught fire at Denver International Airport on Thursday.
American flight 1006 departed Colorado Springs and was bound for Dallas Fort Worth International Airport when the plane was diverted to Denver, an airline spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
The aircraft was taxiing to the gate after landing and "experienced an engine-related issue." The blaze started around 6 p.m. local time.
"The 172 customers and six crew members deplaned and are being relocated to the terminal," the airline said. "We thank our crew members, DEN team and first responders for their quick and decisive action with the safety of everyone on board and on the ground as the priority."
An airport spokesperson told Fox News Digital that a plane caught fire at Gate C38 and that the smoke was visible to the passengers, who were evacuated.

Good grief. SMH
“... passengers appear to evacuate onto plane’s wing”
Isn’t that where the FUEL is?..................
Posted report doesn’t say, but this was a Boeing 737-800.
From what I read last night, the fire too (engine fire).
“Isn’t that where the FUEL is?”
Yep....a whole lot of it, and on both sides......that could’ve been really bad.
I’d have to guess it’s about maintenance issues....or maybe a bird strike.
Reports are saying an engine had excessive vibrations in flight and returned to the airport.
DEI pilots, maintenance people, and more....
And the fire was in the engine, not a Boeing issue. The airline selects and maintains their engines, not the airplane manufacturer.
“He says we’re going the wrong way"
"Oh, he’s drunk. How would he know where we’re going?"
"Yeah, how would he know...???"

Maybe they were evacuating, maybe they were roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. We'll never know.
They diverted for some issue THEN the engine caught fire after landing? That sounds like a very good divert decision.
EC
Good question!
Nonsense. The seniority of this captain predates any “DEI” hiring that might have occurred in the last 5 years.
There was certainly a judgment issue on the part of the captain. Diverting to DIA because of an engine problem was wise, but instead of taxing to the gate, it might have been better to have firefighters check the engine while still on the runway after landing. That is the best place to evacuate if it comes to that.
Another channel said that they diverted because of excessive engine vibration.
