Bombs are dropped from airplanes. Munitions shot from the ground are called missile, not bombs. Sounds like more BS being reported.
Not wrong.
But its a bit involved and requires explanation. What these are is USAF SDB’s (small diameter bombs) which were originally air dropped gliding bombs, meant to be carried in large numbers. Think small JDAMS originally intended for SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defense), with an @60km standoff range.
These were married up with surplus MRLS rocket bodies, same as HIMARS rocket bodies, to create a longer range, and maneuverable, ground launched guided missile. The problem is that the original GPS guidance on the SDB’s was easily jammed and unlike the HIMARS GMLRS or ATACMS there was no inertial nav backup, which picks up when the GPS is lost. Implication is these have been upgraded with inertial nav.
It’s a standard GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bomb attached to an M26 rocket motor.
“Bombs are dropped from airplanes. Munitions shot from the ground are called missile, not bombs.”
This is so easy and fun at the same time.
Sad Marcus. let’s all give him a shoulder to cry on. LOL!
