As the deadline to avert a partial government shutdown approaches and President Donald Trump urges Republicans to support passage of a funding measure, Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., has declared that he will oppose the proposal.
"Unless I get a lobotomy Monday that causes me to forget what I’ve witnessed the past 12 years, I’ll be a NO on the CR this week. It amazes me that my colleagues and many of the public fall for the lie that we will fight another day," Massie declared in a Sunday post on X.
President Donald Trump has urged Republicans to pass the measure.

That’s a good question.
Recission? When was the last time that was brought up? Congress hasn’t passed a recission bill since Bill Clinton was president. We wouldn’t even know the massive scope of government waste or where to cut had Team Trump not unleashed DOGE. There would have been zero chance of Congress cutting USAID, had Team Trump not exposed where the money really goes. THAT, among other things, is what’s different this time.

But—I will be totally honest and admit I have no idea what it is.
If someone can explain it to me then go for it.
We need iron clad guarantees that a Senate recission bill will pass.
Where do we find those?
If they exist then I am good.
The only guarantee we have is Trump’s word and the fact that the House and Senate have, so far, stuck with Trump and his agenda. Trump got every one of his cabinet nominees confirmed. And so far the House has been remarkably disciplined and unified, despite their razon thin majority.
There’s real public support for spending cuts now that DOGE has highlighted just how wasteful government spending actually is. I think the Republicans in Congress understand that spending cuts will be a winning issue for them in the mid-terms, if they can get them passed.
7% of the deficit is a great start.
