Every time I boot up my Windows 11, I'm greeted by MS Edge. I can't seem to shut it down for good. I searched the internet, followed all the advice, but it doesn't work.
I tried the following tips I found on the internet:
1. Press Windows + R to launch the Run application. Type “regedit” in the dialogue box and press Enter.
2. Once in the registry editor, navigate to the following file path: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet
3. Now, look at the right side of the screen where different keys are listed. Search through them until you find “EnableActiveProbing”. Double-click it to open its properties.
4. Set the currently set value to zero “0”. Press Ok to save changes and exit.
Okay, I did that. Edge still pops up.
I tried this:
Go to the following path: C:WindowsSystemApps. Find the folder named “Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe”.
Right-click the folder and select “Rename.” Change the folder’s name to something like “Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe_disabled.”
Renaming the folder tricks Windows into thinking Edge is gone. But remember, this won’t fully uninstall it, just disable it.
Okay, I did that. Edge still pops up.
I found that running CCleaner apparently shuts down Edge, because CC shuts down all web browsers when cleaning. But if I shut the laptop lid for a while, then open it ten or so minutes later, Edge greets me again.
When folks stop complaining about the endless problems with windows we will stop suggesting that there really is a way so you never have to deal with all those problems again.
We are compassionate and trying to help you free yourself from that MS ball and chain. If you insist on being owned by a software company that is on you. We are just reminding that you really can be free of all that mess.
IMO the high water mark for Windows was Windows 2000.

It is but it wasnt too bad to stop it- but without a guide I would have never known how- they certainly don’t make it easy

I forgot to ask, are you on linux or windows? The link,I have was for Linux distros.
If,you are on linux, There was another thread I had read on it- I’ll see if I can find it - it had a different method- not as many steps- hopefully it’ll work for you.

“In your Home directory, show hidden files. Go to .local>share>keyrings and rename both keyrings by adding OLD in front.
Open Brave. You will get a prompt for your password. Hit ‘continue’. You will get a notification you should set a password and you will have a blank password. Continue and you won’t be bothered again”
You can zlways rename them by removing the “old” af the front of the file name if it doesn’t work-
Ah OK. Just saw that you use kubuntu- I’m not familiar with kubuntu, but it should have same file system as linux mint, or close anyways. Try the steps in m last post- lemme know,if it works or not- if not there are other ways-

I did the “OLD “ to alter filenames
I killed Brave
restarted Brave and all tabs came up and no dialog for keyring at all.
I hope I haven’t killed anything
Rename them back to what they were- should come back
And there you go. Anybody that likes windows and doesn’t go to Linux has something wrong with him.

Very very few actually LIKE windows. They are just stuck with it, it is forced on them. 95% of users would rather NOT have to deal with all those windows problems. Why would they actually LIKE all those problems? They don’t and that is a fact.
Must be nice to be able to attribute your thoughts to everybody else in the planet.

I’ll been writing software for both Lennox and windows for 30 years now. I like each one for what they’re good at. And I promise you 90% of computer users are not Wishing they could run Linux?
