In Windows 11, go to Task Manager, then to the Startup tab.
Disable MS Edge as a startup program. You should also disable MS Edge Update.

The Task Manager’s Startup Apps say that Edge is Disabled. Yet it still pops up.

Make sure your other browser (I’ve been using Opera for about 20 years) is set to “Default” as this should help. When I got my new Windows 11 the first thing I did for a day was shut down Edge permanently. Make sure all the widgets and other invasive software actions are shut off etc. both in the *settings* and Edge itself, I haven’t any issues for months after day one.

Thank you! Edge has possessed my Windows 10 PCs. I hate it and would like to get rid of it.

Why don’t you just uninstall it? Assuming you use a different browser. I never mess around with the registry. If you want to get rid of Edge go to Control Panel and Uninstall a program. It come up in my list.

My Control Panel doesn't have an Uninstall option for Edge. Only Organize or Change.
If I press Change, a box pops up offering to Repair Edge.
And I've set my Defaults to Firefox when permitted, but for some files that use Edge, no other option is permitted.
