The muscle car they tried to erase. The 1968 AMC Javelin AMX.
The Pacer was so ugly Godzilla refused to pick one up to devour the delicious humans inside.
Yeah, but muscle cars will pass anything on the highway- except a gas station - amirite fellas?
Compared to a TA 340 Six Pack Challenger?
Nope.
I believe Mark Donahue raced one of these in Trans-Am for Roger Penske.
1975 Gremlin. Mint Green. Best damned car my parents ever had. Thirty years an every day driver. One water pump, some fenders-wheel wells rust cleanup and repaint in the mid 90’s. A/C could chill a house. Posi-rear. Indestructible straight six. It had just over 300K miles on it when my dad let a bum friend borrow it for a (who knows what?), and he rolled it.
A Souped Up GREMLIN You meant!
Ha!
Little Sis had a Gremlin and it Was Quick
But a piece of Junk!
.
RIP
Geeze, that is an ugly Pinto wannabe with some power No wonder they didn’t last long against Chargers and Challengers and others. Lools like Moms’ car. Nice rims though.
The two cars from the Muscle era I always wanted was a ‘67 GTO and the AMX. When I got a job, I looked at a ‘67 GTO and a 67 Camaro. My girlfriend at the time liked the Camaro. Later another girlfriend had the AMX so I bought a ‘70 Camaro.
By the way, I can confirm that trees get in the way of those cars, especially in curves on wet pavement.
The last AMC dealer in the US is located just NE of Goldsboro, NC. Last time I was there was about ‘11 and the place was overgrown but still had AMC cars parked in sheds. Could not see inside but they did have some unusual classics of a sort.
Look at that!
Awesomeness!
Oak tree, you're in my way...
Disk brakes are for sissies!
I drooled in my keyboard.
Nice. In early 1973 a coworker was selling his 1965 GTO before joining the Marines. It was black, with a 4-speed and a 389 with twin 4-bbl carbs, and fast as could be. He wanted $1200 for it, which I had, but my parents would have killed me within seconds of me pulling up in the driveway.
I still regret not buying it anyway, though I’d certainly have wrecked it or sold it before too long. No way I’d have been able to hang onto it for 52 years.
Actually if you are going to compare it to another car, it is more along the lines of a Nova , and if I recall when it first came out it was just AMX a two seater, the AMX badge didn’t go on the Javelin(a four seater) until 1971?
Drove one once. LOTS of power!
When I got out of the Navy in 1971, I bought a very fast 1970 Hemi’Cuda...Wish I still had that car....*sigh*
AMC winning Trans AM
