Over the last 2 and 1/2 weeks I've been getting about 3 spam calls per day. The numbers all show as local and they aren't the same so blocking one doesn't help. They all begin the same way, someone says "hello" and if I answer they start their spiel (a recorded spiel) about having sent me mail about medicare. If I hang up then the next one will be sometime in the next couple hours. If I don't answer it goes to VM and they don't leave a VM, still doesn't matter as I can expect another either that day or the next. Often I make the connection but don't say anything and eventually they disconnect. Still makes no difference. Some numbers not in my directory are from my wife's hospice provider so I am never sure if the call is from one of them. However if it is one of them they leave me a VM.
I haven't tried this yet but am considering, I have a compressed air boat horn in my garage and am considering going to the garage for the next one, making the connection then blasting it. Of course if it is one of her hospice providers It'll likely scare the hell out of them.
I looked at Robo Killer in the app store but it's $10/month. If it was $2/month I might spring for it but $120/yr seems excessive. But I am considering it as I'm becoming desperate (and pissed).
I'd like to hear from other freepers about what if anything they do or recommend. Thanks.
Keep them on the line. Say, You want Whoever- ok I’ll get him ——set the phone down.
Those calls tend to go away after a few months of this treatment.
I don’t answer.
I have my landline connected to a fax machine. It rings all the time. They get an earful.
“””I never answer the phone”””
Yup. Retired, if you want something leave a message that I will ignore anyway.
I switch Contacts Only to on. I never get spam calls.
If someone not in my list needs to talk to me they leave a message.
My Pixel 9 is pretty good at getting all the spam callers.
When I hear the click that is telling me that the caller has spoofed the number he is calling from, I always hang up. I will not engage with such a person.
This and here is why. If you answer, they have a number in their database, that they sell, that says “They answer their phone”.
I hang up as soon as it makes the electronic sound transferring from the autodialer.
You don’t get that, of course, when it’s an AI computer instead of a foreign call center.
They will call my cell phone then home home..the bad thing is that sometimes my moms doc will call and it will say spam risk and its her heart doc..they call from all over the country “Gardena CA” you name it they call, we all know they are really not calling from the US probably Nigeria or some other rat hole
I rarely get spam calls but sometimes I’ll pick up and say “You speeeke Chinese”? They hang up.
A long time ago with a land line I’d say “Hold on while I stir the spaghetti” and never come back.
Don’t answer.
Important calls will leave a message.
No no no
On my cellphone 📱 I don’t answer and then just block and report as spam.
But if one feels inclined to answer just say:
“Jesus is Lord!”
Then let this song roll using an old cellphone 📱 placed next to it and LOUDLY
https://youtu.be/hCdtE6VzR5o?si=_JgsesGl5W1IeKeo
It’s a GREAT GOSPEL SONG and it’s nearly 17 minutes long.
Who knows! You might wind up getting some to believe.
Sometimes I just let this song roll on my cellphone 📱 or laptop 💻
If you’ve got an iphone, you can have it send all numbers not in your contacts to voicemail immediately.
And only getting such calls 2 or 3 times a day makes YOU lucky! We get many more such.
Also...all #s with an area code of 475 ARE SPAM !
If you ever get a call and answer it to a LIVE person and can talk in an uncommon language/can easily talk gibberish...do so!
Us too, all the time, supposed real estate agents saying they want to buy our home so Im like “Ok for four mil you can have it I’ll leave tomorrow”
Follow these steps:
1) dial a non-working number and record the tones
2) re-record your voicemail message so that the tones play first, wait at least 3 seconds, and then record your normal greeting.
3) let your answering machine grab the calls. Pick up only if you want to.
What is going to happen: the auto-dialer will hear the tones and mark your line as no longer in service. It will then skip your number on the next time it calls. It takes a couple of weeks but they will “block” your number.
Probably true
