"Anora" won big at the 2025 Oscars Sunday night, taking home five awards, including best picture and best director, at the 97th Academy Awards.
Sean Baker, who directed, edited, wrote and co-produced "Anora," won four Oscars at Sunday's ceremony, tying Walt Disney's record for the most Academy Awards won by a single person in one year. Baker distinguished himself by winning all four awards for the same movie, while Disney won for four different projects at the 1954 ceremony. (Bong Joon-Ho accepted four statues at the 2020 ceremony, but the win for best international feature was technically awarded to South Korea, and not him as an individual.)
"Emilia Pérez" had the most nominations this year with 13, including nods for best picture, best director, best writing and multiple acting nominations. Karla Sofía Gascón made Oscar history when she became the first transgender woman to be nominated in any acting category when she received a best actress nomination for playing the film's title role. Her Oscar campaign, however, was marred by controversy after offensive posts she made on social media surfaced. The award for best actress ultimately went to Mikey Madison, who played the title role in "Anora."
Zoe Saldaña — who became the first American of Dominican descent to win an Oscar — won best supporting actress, one of just two wins for "Emilia Pérez" on Sunday night.
"Wicked," based on the hit Broadway musical, and "The Brutalist" both came into the night with 10 nominations each, and were also competing for best picture, best director and a slew of acting nominations.
Adrian Brody won his second best actor Oscar for his role as architect László Tóth in "The Brutalist." When Brody won his first Oscar for 2002's "The Pianist" at age 29, he became the youngest person to win the award. Timothée Chalamet was also nominated for best actor for his performance as the iconic folk singer Bob Dylan in "A Complete Unknown," and had been hoping to break Brody's record. Also nominated in the category were Ralph Fiennes, who starred in "Conclave," Colman Domingo, and Sebastian Stan, who could have become the first person to ever win best actor for playing the sitting U.S. president had he gone home with the award.
Former "Late Night" and "The Tonight Show" host Conan O'Brien helmed this year's ceremony. A two-time host of the Emmys, this was O'Brien's first time as master of ceremonies for the Academy Awards.

That’s it.
Of course, he is French.....
He is a pretty good actor. I remember him from “The King” and the two “Dune” movies.
The Oscars were called the Gay Super Bowl a while ago now.
Back in the late 1980s one of the guys here at the office wore something similar to the office ONCE. It was kind of lime green in color with matching pants & coat. We gave him so much grief he NEVER wore it again. I suspect it ended up at Goodwill shortly after.
Who is this “Oscar” they speak of?
kind of lime green in color .............. Chartreuse..........
Funny you say that- i watched the last 30 seconds of the show as i was hopping into bed- and the chick who won for best actress literally said on TV, “I want to honor the sex worker community” as she was accepting her award...i was like WTF??!!
Dang, missed it again. Looking forward to missing it again next year.
Oppenheimer sucked in my opinion. All commie political stuff. There are better Manhattan project movies.
You skipped one................
I thought he was pretty good in the perfume commercial with the Moody Blues hit. Beyond that I have no standing.
“Anorak” is basically a reimsging of “Pretty Woman.”
“Anora” is basically a reimaging of “Pretty Woman.”
"...but have won for Best Picture. "The Shape of Water" is a remarkably bad film, loved by all “artists” in the Academy. It won Best Picture in 2017. It featured a gay character who didn't need to be gay, but every award-winning movie must have a gay character. It's a rule. The government agent in the film is an evil knuckle-dragger, because America is mean and evil."Moonlight" won Best Picture in 2016. Its main character is a black gay guy.
In 2018, "Green Book" won Best Picture. A main character in "Green Book" is a brilliant musician - also, a black gay guy.
"Conclave" is about a pope who is a chick pretending to be a man.
"The Brutalist" has a gay main character who viciously rapes the protagonist, so, points against it because the gay guy is a vile human. But it’s allegorically anti-American; it's a "draw" on the pro/con virtue points scale.
"Anora" glorifies/condones prostitution.
Emelia Perez—The lead is played by Karla Sofía Gascón. Gascón is a “person of color.” He's a biological man who pretends to be a chick in real life. His character is a man pretending to be a chick in his fake life. Ergo, the first transgender man to be nominated for best actress.
The Most Depressing Film I’ve Seen In A While Is Somehow A “Must Watch"
“””As irrelevant as grammys, nobells, pulitzers, emmys, civilian peace prizes........””
They are all just ORANGE MAN BAD shows.
Who won?
Who cares?
Who cares?
I quit watching the Oscars when I realized I had never heard of any of the movies nominated.
