Not just UST but local distribution pipelines (easements).
Oils and gasoline have been transported by pipeline for decades.
Quite often, they are co-located among companies to speed up the permitting process (in U.S.)
In the U.S., the give-away are posts along the road-bed and on property-line fences.
Wiltel IIRC, bought up/leased a huge amount of those that were out of service/abandoned in place for new lines, pigged them and subsequently ran the at the time new fangled fiber optic cable through them. They scored huge with that. While everyone else telco wise was getting easements and trenching in fiber they were just pigging (pushing foam “pig” through to push out leftover oil), and pulling thousands of miles of it with ease.
