They found out after the Mt. St Helens eruption that petrification does not necessarily take millions of years. It’s possible if the mineral content of the flood water was high enough that the wood of the ark started mineralizing during the 40days of the flood and remained waterlogged for a sufficient time after the flood to pertrify enough that it would not decay.
