Ukraine open to ‘immediate’ 30-day ceasefire if Russia agrees: State Dept
The Russians have not agreed to a ceasefire as of press time.
Ukrainian diplomats signaled their willingness to agree to a 30-day preliminary ceasefire with Russia as part of their negotiations with American officials in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.
“Ukraine expressed readiness to accept the U.S. proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, and which is subject to acceptance and concurrent implementation by the Russian Federation,” the State Department said in a joint statement with Ukrainian officials, according to CBS News.
“The United States will communicate to Russia that Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace,” they said. The United States also announced it would end a pause on military aid and intelligence sharing as a result of the talks.
I do NOT like this part:
The United States also announced it would end a pause on military aid and intelligence sharing as a result of the talks.
Grrr don’t like this...
US agrees to lift pause on intelligence sharing and military assistance with Ukraine
The news comes after the U.S. paused all aid for Ukraine, including weapons that are on their way and in Poland, last week.
he United States on Tuesday agreed to lift its pause on intelligence sharing and providing military assistance to Ukraine, during a meeting between the two countries in Saudi Arabia.
The news comes after the U.S. paused all aid for Ukraine, including weapons that are on their way and in Poland, last week following a contentious meeting with President Donald Trump had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last month.
Ukraine also signaled that it was open to a 30-day ceasefire in its war with Russia during the talks.
“Representatives of both nations praised the bravery of the Ukrainian people in defense of their nation and agreed that now is the time to begin a process toward lasting peace,” the U.S. and Ukraine said in a joint statement, per the New York Times.
Both countries said that no peace deal would be made without Russia’s agreement.
“Our hope is that the Russians will say yes, that they will also agree, so the shooting will stop, the killing will stop, the dying will stop, and the talks can begin about how to end this war permanently, in a way that’s acceptable and enduring for both sides,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, according to The Hill.
One thing that worries me about re-starting intelligence sharing with Ukraine - they used our intelligence repeatedly to strike targets deep within Russia. Without it, this would not have happened. I’m concerned that some time during the “cease fire”, little z will break the ceasefire and try and do another precision strike.
I think that is to “encourage” Putin to realize that peace is better than the alternative. We’ve got Zelensky on board, now we need Putin.
