Their causes of death have not been confirmed, but foul play is not suspected, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Denise Womack-Avila told CNN on Thursday morning.

Carbon monoxide poisoning maybe.

RIP Gene and family.
The machine shop I worked at in the 80’s supported an Audi SSCU racing team. Valvoline, Harvey’s Casino and Playboy were the sponsors. Gene Hackman was the celebrity driver. A great time with a great person.

Just heard Mark Simone,a great NYC talk show host, suggest that it could have been a gas leak. Seems to me that it wouldn’t take more than a day or two to determine the dog’s cause of death. If they find gas...hypoxia...carbon monoxide...then we’d know what happened.

Sounds like a gas leak. That’s how Weird Al’s parents died.

Aome are guessing gas, but if that were the case, I think perhaps nothing would have survived, unless the 2 dogs that did surviv3 were in another room where the gas didn’t get to? Which is fairly, probable.

Being that 3 bodies died all at th3 same time, it would indicate gas, or maybe they ate something toxic? Drank something toxic by accident? Maybe the other 2 dogs didn’t get any of of it?

Odd case for sure.

Where is aric barwin? I hear he has a killer resume in New Mexico. For Gene, his wife and dog, prayers up. This time of year it can be chilly in Santa Fe so it could be a carbon monoxide situation.

There is another CO poisoning case that happened several years ago at a biker rally where some of the bikers had a trailer hooked up to an air conditioner that was powered by a small gas engine. Somehow the CO got into the trailer and killed everybody in it. Indeed, it was so strong that one or two of the attempted rescuers either passed out or were actually killed.

They both can be deadly.

Just by different mechanisms.

Insidious thing about CO is it bonds to your hemoglobin and prevents oxygen absorption and transport. Doesn’t take a very high concentration to cause oxygen starvation.

CO2 isn’t toxic by itself. But in sufficient quantities it displaces oxygen with the effect similar to drowning.

I assumed suicide, but hadn’t considered CO poisoning.

"Isn’t there a chemical added to odorless gases to l make a sulferish smell??"

Yes, natural gas that is pumped into your home has an added rotten egg smell you can't miss. Carbon Monoxide (CO) doesn't have any odor of it's own, so it is a much more sneaky killer.

My first guess on this is either CO poisoning (it's been fairly cold at night in New Mexico the last few days--faulty heating appliance?), or, secondarily, a murder/suicide.

Once, when the team was racing at Road Atlanta. The team was practicing at Road Atlanta. I was an awestruck 24 yr old fan who was introduced as someone who helped make some parts for his car. It’s funny but all I could think of was I was talking to Lex Luthor.
