Loved him.

Great Character Actor.

His wife and dog too? Sounds like Carbon Monoxide.

RIP to a Hollywood legend.

Could have been both carbon monoxide poisoning AND suicide.

Dead dog indicates either a gas leak or suicide. Wife was still young so I hope it's the gas leak theory. If a gas leak was the cause of death that should have been easy to determine and already listed as the cause.

As an actor I liked him. He played the part of a sarcastic a$$hole so well, I thought he was probably a nice person. Actors are often the opposite of there characters, but then again, there is De Niro.

Several years ago, out CO detector went off. Nobody had any apparent symptoms so we weren’t sure if it was some sort of malfunction as the detector was fairly old. But we did vent the house and made a call to 911. It turned out that there was indeed abnormal levels of CO, coming from the stove.

We had a mat that was meant to be used on the bottom oven rack to catch drippings from a pizza, for example. What happened was that after cleaning, that mat was mistakenly placed directly on the bottom of the oven instead of the lower rack, thereby causing improper combustion.

That CO detector may very well have saved our family, and now we have a CO detector in the master bedroom (the original location), one down the hall, and a CO/Propane detector in the basement.

There are so many to choose from, but I liked a couple of his films that were not A-list.

“The Quick and the Dead”

“Bat 21”

“Uncommon Valor”

I am going to watch the French Connection tonight, have not watched in decades.

It happens.

As to liability, if it was a CO leak, if the property is rented the landlord perhaps, the manufacturer of the furnace maybe? The installer?

However, you would have to have some sort of reason they would be at fault. IE manufacturing defect, installed incorrectly, not properly maintained (if its a rental)

I mean you can sue in civil court just about anyone for anything, but to win, you need to have (at least in theory) some sort of proof that the people you are suing are at fault for the event occurring through negligence or error.

If you own a home with a natural gas furnace, this is always a risk, even if you maintain your furnace properly and it was installed properly etc etc.. Mechanical systems fail, they just do. Carbon Monoxide detectors should be in your home (SEVERAL OF THEM) if you have a gas furnace...

I don’t know if that’s what happened here, but just as a general rule, you should have them, just like you should have smoke detectors.

Unforgiven is not a fave of mine.

After seeing it at the theater, I never wanted to see it again.

If you like it, fine. But it’s not for everybody.

Hackman once explained his creative approach by saying, “Each scene, I look for something not written down.”
