Did you know this? The Association NEVER played an instrument on any of their albums. The Wrecking Crew played the music. That blew me away.
The Wrecking Crew played on thousands of tracks.
Glen Campbell was a part of TWC and borrowed Carol Kaye’s 6-strinbg bass to play the solo on “Wichita Lineman”
And Crosby, Stills & Nash concerts are “unplugged” shows with mostly voice harmonics … because Stephen Stills played every instrument track on their studio albums, and he can’t play them all simultaneously!
It wasn’t their choice. The record companies forced them to use session players, it was cheaper.
I have the book by The Wrecking Crew’s drummer Hal Blaine and it lists all the top 20 hits they played on . You’d be blown away if you saw it . I was just a kid in the 60’s and was happily unaware that some of my fave bands were not actually playing on their records !
