A 16-year-old boy let out a keening wail as he collapsed in court after being told he would be tried for murder as an adult and denied bail.
Sean Simpson is charged with the shooting murder of 16-year-old Zaquavious Dawkins last month in Gastonia, North Carolina.
The alleged teen killer broke down in court, sobbing and screaming as he learned he would not be released on bail and will have to face the law as an adult.
Simpson began wiping his eyes as the judge could be heard saying 'hold without bond,' footage obtained by QueenCityNews shows.
The teenager, whose wrists were cuffed together, then staggered to one side as he began to faint.
He was prevented from falling to the floor by a deputy standing next to him, who let Simpson rest on his shoulder.
Simpson then opened his mouth to let out an anguished cry and leaned forward heavily as the two deputies on either side of him held on to him.
A new state law enacted by North Carolina in December 2024 means that 16 and 17 year-olds can now be charged as adults for certain crimes, including murder.
Simpson is believed to be one of the first teenagers to be tried under the new law.
Simpson allegedly fired on Dawkins and another victim as they walked on a road following a schoolyard fight, as reported by the Gaston Gazette.
He is also accused of attempted first-degree murder for shooting at the other unnamed victim, who was injured but survived.
Dawkin's family was also seen overcome with emotion during the court hearing on January 29.

More likely, no father in the home.
And, where does a 16-y-o get a handgun. Oh, never mind.
If you commit rape, murder, etc while in prison, to the gallows you go. If you get caught dealing drugs in prison - to the gallows you go. While in prison, you work a chain gang - digging drainage ditches, breaking rocks, etc.
“Zaquavius Zaquavius l, wherefore be y’all, exclaimed he sista, Shanreliqua!
There is a large segment of society that is suffering from “Government help”. The work ethic, personal responsibility and ambition have been sabotaged. Entitlement, arrogance, lawlessness and violence have been encourage and rewarded.
It’s not going to be easy reversing that process if it’s even possible. The left has done the devil’s work. It may be possible to reverse the trend slowly by stopping welfare without work, not rewarding childbirth while on welfare, imposing accountability, school choice and removal of troublemakers to specialized schools. Will we have the stomach to stick to that course?
Nah, Imho, all prisoners ought to live in one giant room 24 hours a day and whatever happens, oh well...
Street knowledge of THAT would be good motivation to not break laws in the first place.

Kind of a Roman zombie name.
A big cry for himself. Nothing for this person he killed. I don’t know but have to imagine the mother of that person let out a cry.
“Momma listened to “The Name Game” once too often...
Judy! Judy, judy bo budy banana fanna fo fody
Fee fy mo mudy, judy!
Lana! Lana, lana bo bana banana fanna fo fana
Fee fy mo mana, lana!
Come on everybody!
I say now let’s play a game
I betcha I can make a rhyme
Out of anybody’s name.
The first letter of the name,
I treat it like it wasn’t there.
But a b or an f
Or an m will appear.
And then I say bo add a b then
I say the name and banana fanna and a fo
And then I say the name again with an f very plain
And a fee fy and a mo
And then I say the name again with an m this time
And there isn’t any name that I can’t rhyme”
CHUCK!!!
Zaquavious
6 of 10 are vowels. Needs an “e” in there for a hat trick.
When I was a kid, they had the same names as white kids. Just by looking at the name on a paper, you could not tell if it was a black or white kid..................
