Claim: A photograph authentically shows former first lady Jill Biden as a young woman.

A black-and-white photograph supposedly showing a young Jill Biden has circulated online for years, often with the claim that it was taken in the 1970s.
The photo of the former U.S. first lady spread on social media platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram and 9GAG.
In short, the image is authentic. It was taken in 1974 by artist and professional photographer Tom Stiltz, who posted the image on his Instagram account in 2020.
Apart from Stiltz's, the earliest known post featuring the image was shared on Aug. 19, 2020, with the caption: "Jill Biden, 1970s."
However, the original poster later clarified in the comments: "I should mention that 1970s is an estimate. I wasn't able to find a source image online to confirm. This is pulled from the DNC's coverage." Another user commented, "I knew someone would post this picture here the moment it aired," suggesting the image was shown during the 2020 Democratic National Convention, which took place from Aug. 17-19, 2020.

Jill looks as if she is trying to look like a hippie folk singer, which would have been a common aim in those days.

When I was a teen(60s), I learned the concept of “10”. It was all on looks.
Over my 74 years, I’ve split the 10 to 5 and 5. 5 for looks and 5 for personality/brains.
As Mrs Biden matured, the second 5 has gone waaaaay down. She is not a nice person.
Who’d have guessed that she’d go on to be president of the US?
I think she’s lovely. That’s on the outside. Not clear what life did to her on the inside to turn her into Edith Wilson.
Factoring out recent-decade ugliness spawned by what she became as a Biden, I think that this is a rather attractive picture.

Or maybe because she was a greedy power hungry opportunist who later in life exploited and abused her mentally damaged husband for public notoriety and fame.
My take on her was that she became part of Joe Biden, Inc. - vested in his political career and the benefits it showered on her and the family. Politics is an ugly world and to be in it that long, she must have spent a lot of time looking at schmucks like Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama and watching them cash in. And she expected that the trade-off for Joe in 2020 was instead of a nice time on the speech circuit, cashing in like Bubba, he would serve for a term or two, then cash in from the post-retirement lectures, appearances, serving on boards, no-work academic appointments, etc. Obviously that fell apart with his accelerating decline. I’m sure she was in on meetings where the plan to sequester him using the excuse of COVID in the 2020 campaign was explicitly discussed. She was fully aware of his disability and the specific strategies to mask it from the public and the press. You could see after the disastrous June 2024 debate with Trump that she was showing her role in this circus when she spoke to Joe, congratulating him on “answering every question”. So, she cast her lot with his career, and it didn’t work out like she hoped. Too bad for her. As a first lady, she takes no oath to the Constitution. But I do think she had a duty to the country, which she failed. Trump should pardon her and Joe so they can be compelled to testify.
