The anthem singer who performed the Canadian anthem prior to the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game Thursday night changed a lyric in "O Canada" as a rebuke to President Trump's repeated remarks about making the country the 51st state.
Publicist Adam Gonshor confirmed to CBS News that Chantal Kreviazuk changed the lyric from "in all of us command" to "that only us command."
During Canada's 3-2 overtime victory, Kreviazuk told The Associated Press she did it "because I believe in democracy, and a sovereign nation should not have to be defending itself against tyranny and fascism."
In the post, Kreviazuk said, "I am sorry if my performance of our national anthem rubbed you the wrong way. ... I am sorry if you think that we'd be better off annexed. ... We should express our outrage in the face of any abuses of power. ... Canada, not unlike Ukraine, is a sovereign nation. Period."
In a post on X, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, "You can't take our country — and you can't take our game."

I’m not convinced he wasn’t talking about Fidel Jr. there.
This is like your teenager asking for money and then telling you, you are not making decisions for them. A sovereign nation isn’t propped up by another, close the spigot and let them be “sovereign.”

I didn’t think she was that great of a singer. Perhaps her voice was shaking due to her transposing the lyrics. OTOH, the absolute babe singing the Star Spangled Banner was amazing. I can’t say I have ever heard it sung better.
I noticed she sang the first stanza in French as well. That’s usually saved for the third.
Actually, I’ve always liked the song. I don’t like the booing that happened in Montreal. Boston, as usual, has more class than Quebec.

I think making Canada a 51st state is a bad idea. We have enough drug addicts and alcoholics living off the taxpayer dime in D.C. Apologies to any Freepers living in Canada, but I take this from firsthand experience; I have relatives in Canada and all of them are addicts living off the government, it’s pathetic.

The only rationale for Trump's remarks is to give him a better bargaining position in talks with Canada.
