I can remember when Calif. republicans went for the flash and nominated Wm. Simon Jr., the son of the former treasury secretary and a conservative hero. Simon was awful. Bill Jones could have beat Gray Davis when Calif was more red than purple.

Ohio tends to pull towards the middle on state level races. I think he'd be a disaster as a GOP candidate here and absolutely would not vote for him in the primary.

Vivek's characterization of U.S. workers as ‘mediocre’ will not play well, particularly in Ohio. It will be interesting to see how he backtracks on his past remarks. His competition will certainly tie his 'U.S. workers as mediocre' remarks around his neck.
