Ironically, I live in Ithaca, arguably the most loony-liberal small city east of the Rockies (I keep my mouth shut in public). So if my dream came true and NYC was dropped off the rest of the state, Ithaca would remain an isolated leftist enclave (Motto: "10 Square Miles Surrounded By Reality"). So not much would change locally, but the state would be able to drop the stupid gun control and lower the taxes, those two things alone would be a blessing.
