A Chinese zoo allegedly admitted to painting donkeys black and white to pass off as zebras in an attempt to drive up park attendance.
The Zibo City amusement park in Shandong province came under fire when internet users noticed the donkeys were disguised as zebras in early February, according to China’s state-run Global Times.
Online users blasted the zoo for its “misleading and unethical” treatment of the animals for the sake of bringing in park visitors,” according to Metro.
“It’s unfair to the animals and the visitors,” a critic said on Chinese social media app Douyin, the outlet reported.
Some assumed that employees used duck tape on the farm animals while others suspected it was dye.
The zoo confirmed that dye was used on the creatures but insisted it was not toxic.

That’s funny! Including the ‘what?’
“You’ll see green alligators
and long necked geese
some humptybacked camels
and some chimpanzees!”
Sing it with me!
thank you...
If you tell a big enough lie…..
It’s all part of population replacement... after all, donkeys are cheaper than zebra, and they fill in jobs that zebra don’t want...
I saw a humorous reference to comments of tourists in the US.
On one dinosaur attraction——
“They’re cheating. None of the dinosaurs are alive. Don’t waste your money.”
Looks like about the right quality level for a *Made in China* label.
One of the Leslie Nielsen scenes, probably in Police Squad on TV the detective said “Here’s the black and white you asked for” and it was a zebra being led inside.
You don’t want to get too close to a Zonkey. Some cowboy will take your picture with it using a 50 year old Polaroid camera, then they want to be paid.
In the film Shena, Queen of the Jungle, they had her, Ms Ireland, riding on a Zebra. If you know wild animals, Zebra’s can not be trained to be ridden. They are mean, independent creatures who will kick you to death if you try to ride them. So they had the art department of the studio paint a mule to look like a zebra, and they did a good job, only failing to get the ears right. Only an expert could tell the mule wasn’t a Zebra.
Lol! They couldn’t even be bothered to find a better artist? Too funny. Hopefully the paint ain’t toxic, but knowing the Chinese, they probably didn’t check.
Plus donkeS are a bit less dangerous. A man not long ago was asked to take care of a zebra that was causing problems. He got there, got out of car, znd the dang zebra charged him, bit his arm, and tore it off. The man did manage to kill the animal, but it cost him dearly to do so.
That’s OK, I paint my zebras brown to look like donkeys.
What if all zebras are just painted donkeys?
The zoo confirmed that dye was used on the creatures but insisted it was not toxic, and remain perfectly edible.
Oh my. Scam of a guide. All zebra are black with white stripes. One species I’ve seen has shadow or light grey stripes. He must not have heard about the difference between the vertical stripe width under the male and female tails.
I haven’t been on a real safari, have only watched live safari drives with professional guides. Did you have a favorite sighting?
😁
There is (or at least was) a whole series of vids on you tube about fake stuff like this in China. Entire hillsides painted green, fakery in zoos, fake cops standing along roadsides (sort of scarecrows for humans?), and so on. It was freaking hilarious.
Temu zebras
