That’s pretty cool.

When it comes to amazing drummers, dead or alive, I think of Cindy Blackman Santana. I saw her in 2024. Amazing is all I can say.

"Yes, Charlie had a good long run. And he always considered that Mick Jagger was his singer, not that he was Mick Jagger’s drummer."

The Rolling Stones is my favorite rock band, but was never impressed with Watts. He wasn't very original and played the same beat (different tempo) on many Stones' hits. I always thought how a Baker or Bonham could have enhanced many Stones' songs. Think of Baker or Bonham on "Honky Tonk Woman". That song was just dying for better fills or at least double bass. Still, one of the classic rock songs of all time due to Richards and Wyman and Jagger's writing.

Session musicians are amazing and should be paid accordingly.

Watts was trained as a jazz guy. I loved him, and his contribution to the Stones.

Ringo is like Eric Clapton. Whether or not they were trained in their craft, they excelled at it.

Our son-in-law said at Christmas this year, that Boomers are ALL full of such musical trivia. He’s not wrong. We all read vinyl albums covers and sleeves from one end to the other. While the music played. We were discussing Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young at the time.

At my urging, daughter and SIL bought the vinyl “Live at the Fillmore East” for my husband. This was their first live album after performing at Woodstock. It’s very good, but raw. Not cleaned up like modern pressings. That what I love about it.

When we were in High School we spent hours arguing over who was the better guitarist, drummer etc.

Everybody knew everyone else’s favorite band, it was a part of your identity.

Of course I had the Live at Fillmore East album too.   When it came out I got the two CD set.   I was born in '53.   Just a hint, my Daughter is named Melissa, and she married a rolling stone, well actually a guy named Stone.

Joe Morello, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, and Hal Blaine. They could play circles around the majority of these on the list. Louie belson showed how a drummer can be understated and add volumes to the music.

That’s fun. I think you and hubby would get along great.

When I was in HS, I didn’t own one single album. Seriously. Couldn’t afford it.

However, my older brother spent his hard earned money on a few albums. I grew up on Simon & Garfunkel through Fleetwood Mac while at home.

When I met my college boyfriend, now husband, I graduated to a wider rock, rhythm, and blues vibe. The first concert he took me to was Eric Clapton in Atlanta. Hard not to fall for that. Or him.

But to your point, and according to my better half, who I just asked, the best drummer was Keith Moon followed closely by John Bonham …and best guitarist, bar none, was Jimmy Page. Clapton is second at guitar. Keith Richards and Mike Campbell follow.

Yes, Chester is still with us. Sorry, I was just thinking about great drummers and he was with Weather Report which was mentioned earlier. 8-)

Moulty, the one armed drummer from the Barbarians is still with us. He goes back to early sixties.

That’s great! I didn’t overlook your daughter’s name. One of our favorite favorite AB’s songs.

I don’t like to talk about age, just life experiences. We all grow and learn at different rates.

I knew nothing about music before I went to college. Now I know a little more, but still, there’s a plethora of *musical* information that I do not know about. I’m a total neophyte. Always willing to learn. And there’s a whole universe of music *stuff* for me to learn. All I can say definitively is that I enjoy music, of many different genres.

Cool that your daughter married a Stone. I would brag about that if my daughter had!

Little trivia about my fam: Youngest son has played at the Fillmore (West, I think) a few years ago when touring. Alas, his band was just starting to make waves, and COVID lockdowns crushed all of his dreams. It’s sad sometimes. They are talented, and old school R n R. (Think 60’s and 70’s).

Lockdowns produced single men who turned into husbands and fathers. They only play locally now. Still a good fan base, but not like it was when they were touring nationwide. However, blessings of another kind.

As a mom, I was constantly worried as they traveled from one gig to another. They were totally on their own. Played a gig, got paid, drove to the next city, went to sleep for a few hours, woke up and went to work again, sound checks, both bands play, get paid, move to the next place. It was a rough life. People think it’s glorious, but there’s a lot of hard work and hard life that goes on behind the scenes in order to look good or perform for a paying audience.

There’s a real reason why drugs are often associated with the entertainment industry. So I’m glad they’re not on the road anymore, even if it means they never became big names. It’s a trade off.

P.S. if you have a turntable, get the vinyl version. If you don’t have a turntable, invest in one again. It’s like finding an old love. Can’t tell you how happy we are. I think we got this one in the late 2010’s. Vinyl is sooo much better than CD’s. I love the pops and flaws. Thought this re-release of CSNY is heavenly. It’s so so great. I can picture them on stage.

If you haven’t seen “Laurel Canyon” on streaming…well, do it! You won’t regret it. There’s so much to the background music scene of those days. If you like CSNY, you owe it yourself to revisit that footage. It’s excellent.

Ping to my 77. I don’t know if I’ve ever asked you if you still have vinyl. We love ours.

Mr. FF lost a lot of his collection around the early 2000’s to a flood, and in his despair, he threw everything out, because the paper was all ruined, but of course, the vinyl could’ve been cleaned up. In his heartache, he threw it all out. Ten or so years later, we started anew. New turntable, new audio system. We have pretty much replenished the old collection, and have continually added to things he always wanted, plus…some of my faves, too.

If he wasn’t in his current line of engineering, he so could’ve been in the audio engineering industry. We have a great set up. Don’t ask me to explain. It’s over my head. All I can tell you is that we can play vinyl seamlessly over our speakers, and then switch to Spotify in two seconds. I am the happy beneficiary of his hobby.

Those who don’t have vinyl, but lived through those days, should return. It’s just so beautiful. Those were the days!

You don't have to tell me about vinyl records.   I still have a collection in a multimedia cabinet in the basement, including The Allman Brothers Live - At Fillmore East.   I got to see them at Cincinnati Gardens in 1973.   That was almost a year after Barry Oakley's death but I didn't know at the time that Duane and Barry had already died.

But, I haven't had a turntable for decades.   I've thought of it off and on over the years, but what would I give up while listening to the the records and possibly disturbing my wife while she listens to her music (mostly Jazz) and streaming programs?   We have been married for fifty years and probably will not change our habits.

“Laurel Canyon” is not free on any streaming channels we subscribe to and we have a house rule not to pay additionally for content, but I'll look out for it if I see it somewhere.   Sweet Judy Blue Eyes has long since been burned into my soul.

No need to disturb your wife, but if you’ve been married for 50 years, doesn’t she know you by now? I know they say, “happy wife, happy life” but I think happy husbands are an important part of that equation, even if not always acknowledged. Works for us. We keep each other happy as best as we can. Of course, it helps that I love the same things. Sports, music. He doesn’t mind my gardening.

You might be able to purchase it on Amazon, which is how we watched it. I had some credits from when I didn’t need things right away, so it didn’t cost much. Also, you might be able to find it on DVD or Blu-Ray.
