Minnie Riperton lived there for a while, too.
A bit of trivia, Don Felder, Tom Petty and Bernie Leadon (original member of the Eagles), all live in the same neighborhood in Gainesville, Fl around the same time and Felder actually was a guitar teacher to Tom Petty.
Steven Stills was there too, for awhile. Must have been all that “Gainesville Green”.
🎶Gainesville was a big town.🎶
Yes, the story goes that Felder was just playing some chords to limber up for a performance, and came out with the basis of the song which Glenn overheard and said “That’s an Eagles song!”. Felder worked on it while Glenn and Henley went and wrote lyrics.
It should sound perfect, it’s recorded in a studio, and when it’s showtime they just press “PLAY”, and off it goes.

I watched the same doc and I didn't come away with a good impression of Glenn Frey.
Back then Gainesville was a much smaller city, its amazing all that talent came together at one time in such a small town that wasn’t really known as a musical hotspot
Gainesville has grown, and to me, not in a good way. The traffic is horrendous. I both love going back home to see family, but hate driving around to get from one place to the other. It takes 10 minutes to go 2 miles in certain parts.

The music store was Lipham’s, IIRC. I had a friend that worked there for a while, in between gigs. Musically talented guy, self-taught. I’ve lost touch with most of those folks.
Besides graduating from UF, I grew up in Newberry just west of Gainesville, growing up around there, Gainesville was a small town and UF was half the number of students as now.
My niece lives in Newberry. I haven’t been to their house yet, but it seems like a nice community.
My Mom was born in Gainesville. You should hear how much it changed in her lifetime (1930 - 2017)!! When the landmarks all changed, she would get lost driving, so she gave up the keys willingly at 83-84.
Every time I go back, it’s so changed. Progress, right? The Duckpond area is somewhat the same, but I don’t know my way around the University area much anymore.
Now Gainesville looks like every other college town, same apartment companies, all the same restaurants.
Yeah, that happened after I moved away. Every time I went home, it just was bigger and bigger. It’s part of why I was on a mission to find “old Florida” last summer. I had to look for it, but I found pieces and parts of it. It was very good to see the remnants are still there.
He led with a booze joke — dehydration is often a result of alcohol overindulgence.
It could be that he was relating to his audience, or it is often just as likely that he was indulging himself, and can no longer handle it.
Musicians who have some side hobbies are not like finding a four leaf clover. ;^)
That’s what I thought as well (Peaceful Easy Feeling), but it also sounded like it could be Tequila Sunrise.
True. Very true.
My son is a musician with a few side hobbies.
Yeah. You are probably right.
