I disagree on the nuclear weapons produce\stockpile comment.
Nuclear weapons age and go from ready to not useable to possibly dangerous to store over time. They need to be kept ready and be replaced on an as necessary basis.

I suppose you only need as many as required to be absolutely certain they accomplish what is required at their designated target. If you're only confident that one in three will succeed, than you might have to set aside and maintain a few spares.
